Red Max at Bournemouth Show

From Steve Red Max (above working on his new Norton)...

Just want to remind everyone , we are having a flat track bike display on at the Battastini's custom show (California Dreaming) in Bournemouth this weekend (sat/sun).
Find us at Ace corner, turn left and keep turning left - cos it's all we know !
We are showing 70's race flat trackers amongst all the usual chromosexual custom stuff , so come and say hi .
There's a party Saturday night with bands and burlesque and a pin up competition (which Rachael has entered !- vote for her here by clicking "like" on her pic - second row, far right, looking in the mirror. You can do that without going.)
While in the competitive mood Racyrach has entered her Sporty cafe racer in the AMD custom show as well - Go Rach !
See y'all there , Steve REDMAX .

Get Well Soon, Rach

Just a couple of days after posting photos of Rach's New Sportster our friend Red Max Rach was on her way to feed her horse when she skidded on ice, crashed and broke her back. She's on the mend, and fortunately, hasn't suffered any damage to her spinal cord, but obviously not the best preparation for the Christmas holidays. Any get well messages left as comments will be forwarded.
Get well soon, Rach!

Well, her and her fella, Steve Red Max have built a neat Sportster-powered cafe racer. See more over at Red Max Speed Shop. They'll build you one as well if you want them to (and pay them).

Amman Report

After a week of barbecue weather in Britain, Friday saw heavy rain. The internationals had already set up camp in the paddock, and the valley sky was looking foreboding for Saturday. The track surface at Amman is unique, and although having been built on a slag heap was not draining enough. Officials had the hard decision of wether to cancel all of Saturdays fixtures as some areas were boggy and they didn't want the surface destroyed for Sunday's racing that was forecast as sunny.
Finally we got an 'OK' and the valiant donned kagols and zip-tied mudguard to their bikes. No stopping the Dutch-Brothers. Even though the whole team had the most trick fresh paint jobs, they weren't afraid to get down and dirty.Sunday was a sun day, glorious even. Everyone was flying (except me who was quietly but happily wetting my knickers at the back of the pack for my first ever race). Some sensational battles, particularly the final won by Marco on the now TM engined Ouroboros. BP

And the street tracker prize winners awarded by the lovely Rach were:
UPDATE: photo Steven Baldock
Grand final:
1st # 6 Marco Belli..................530 Ouroboros Zaeta
2nd # 90 Aidan Collins...........450 HM Plant Honda
3rd # 5 Jacopo Monti..............450 Honda

AMA Vintage Racing

Great news from the States, via Don at Metro Racing...

'Hopefully you have heard by now of the AMA's new vintage dirt track series, starting off at Daytona Speedway Feb 28th followed by Volusia the 2nd of March.
Dave Aldana will be there riding my Astro. Also scheduled to come is Gary Nixon's SonicWeld Triumph 500 and Rodger Reiman's Harley CR250 Sprint. Both bikes will be raced, not just sitting in the pits. I'm sure there will be a lot more going on at these two races.
Hope to see you at the races,
Don Miller Metro Racing/ AMA Vintage Dirt Track Technical Advisor

To see the full dates (which include races in Ohio, NY, South Carolina, Illinois and Texas) go to the AMA

While we're kind of talking about Daytona, there are going to be a few Euro short trackers over to watch some of the races. Steve Red Max, Rach the Sideburn girl and the Dutch Brothers crew are all going out. So say hello to them.
Check out Steve Red Max's Daytona lonely hearts plea here. GI

Back on track

Things are getting heavy over at the Buell post. We haven't had that many comments since the fueling on my Wood Rotax was all to cock. So here's some light relief... Lovely Rach. Hiya Rach!
Click the link at the side if you want to buy a Gene shirt. They're going fast. GI

It's turning cold

But we have the answer. Beat the imminent price increase on Indian Girl hooded sweats (modeled here by Rach) and long-sleeves by ordering now.

Anyone attending the BMF UK Short Track meeting, this Saturday or Sunday, who wants Sideburn Merch can order and not pay postage, but I'm not taking much stock (I'm there to race, to win!) so email us your requirements for:

Hooded sweats (red or grey)
Long-sleeves (red or grey)
Gene shirt (black or army green)
One of the last half-dozen Dick Mann shirts (small and medium only)
Or the excellent and in demand Complete Book of Flat track Racing

See all the designs here.
Spectators will find me at the Skooter Farm encampment which is usually at the side of the metal railings. Fellow racers can just follow me round the track, over the finish line and right into my pit gazebo. Cheers GI

Thanks to Steve Red Max for the photo

Red Max Speed Shop

I don't know why we've taken so long to get around to posting news on our friend's new venture, especially as it couldn't be more any more up our strasse if it tried. Fellow UK dirt track Steve H has set up a business building street trackers and cafe racers, selling parts and being the go to man on the UK scene.
And that's him all crossed up on the old XR750. He doesn't just talk the talk...
Check out his website and blog at Red Max Speed Shop
He'll be ably assisted by his other-half, Rach the Sideburn girl.

Scunthorpe practice

We started the frantic ringing round and web checking on Saturday night, after the cancelation, of the race. And we found out there was a practice day at Scunthorpe speedway track - the Eddie Wright Raceway, a small oval on a former piece of wasteland, in the industrial north of England. I took my Wood Rotax, Randal and Steve brought their old XR750s, Jason turned up on his newly finished SR and Colin brought his CCM FT35.
Steve even let me have session on his XR. Thanks Steve. Great day.
These photos are by Rach.
I shot it all on film (not digi) so more pics soon.
