Bugs vs Ann-Margret

There's an uploader to YouTube, fardonbeat66,  who puts up a steady flow of garage and beat stuff always accompanied by edited clips of films from the era. Some work, some don't, but this is worth a look. The tune is the brilliantly messy 1966 B-side, Slide, by short-lived Massachusetts band The Bugs. The clips are from the 1964
shock-flick Kitten With a A Whip starring the impossibly desirable
Ann-Margret, as it happens the subject of a heartbreaking feature in Sideburn #17. Great (though brief) hand-held camera work in the manic fight scene. MP

Salem Indoor Tomorrow Night

We're doing a little bit to support amateur racing in the Pacific Northwest sending a few prizes out to See See who are really doing all they can to get people racing.
It's a friendly scene and welcoming of no-nothing novices. Oh, and you get to watch one of the world's most bad ass racers, Brad Baker race sometimes too.

In search of Mark Brelsford

Mark Brelsford is no easy man to track down, but we got him after a saga of midnight transatlantic phone calls, messages relayed up mountains by friends and futile emails lost mysteriously to the ether. After big crashes in 1973 and '74 the 1972 Grand National champion quit racing and moved to the great open spaces of Alaska. 'I'd had the last rites two times in the last two years and I thought I'd better get out while I'm still able to walk and talk.' In the new issue of Sideburn, (#19, available now), we hear Mark's memories of racing at Ascot Park in 1969, his first year as a Harley-Davidson team rider. David and Goliath even get a mention. He's shown a year or two later in the shot above - unknown photographer please drop us a line. MP

When You Dead You Dead

So says Waldemars Kidals. That saying (and Sideburn 18) inspired Rufus Day to make this funny, little animation. Thanks Rufus! Owners of Sideburn 18 will know the significance of the saying.

Rufus says…

Works been a bit slow recently and Ive been enjoying my Sideburn no.18 so much I decided to make a little video- hope you like it.

I'm an Illustrator but I make some short videos too- here is my blog and vimeo page.

I've spent the last few years tinkering with a Puch moped but I thought I'd show you my latest project - a rusty Citroen Acadiane van (just enough space for a chicken chaser in the back).

Goldentyre - UPDATED

Our friend Jan-Willem of the Dutch Brothers is selling Goldentyre road legal dirt track race tyres (that he also races on) and shipping them around Europe.
See the details on the ad above.

Jan-Willem (who, admittedly, is trying to sell them) says:
The Goldentyre went through several development stages, including expensive mould modifications. This under pressure from Chris Carr [7-time AMA champ, who worked on the development]. They came out really good and are certainly on a par with the Maxxis.

UPDATE: From Jan-Willem

These tyres are homologated in Europe and "E" marked.

Load and speed rating
for the front 130/80-19 (27.0-7.0-19) TT 67H
for the rear 140/80-19(27.5-7.5-19) TT 71H
Below is a KTM Jan-Willem converted to street/DTX trim with his own design of Superwheels, Dutch Brothers triple clamps, lowered rear suspension (altered linkages) and Golden Tyres.
The conversion was easy to return to standard.

Superprestigio - Soon

The Superprestigio organisers have moved their event from January to December, so, for 2014, there will be two in one calendar year, and it's coming up on Saturday 13 December. That leaves time for you to book a relatively cheap Euro flight out there if you fancy it.

It was a great spectacle last time, in an Olympic arena within the city, and I have a feeling it will be a 15,000-plus sell out this year.

Go to Superprestigio to find out more and order tickets (good website in Spanish, Catalan and English)

SUPERPRESTIGIO CLASS
The class for World Championship road racers.
This year there will be all three current MotoGP champions: Marc and Alex Marquez and Tito Rabat - all local riders so the atmosphere and support should be impressive.
Also from MotoGP are Scott Redding, Bradley Smith and Alvaro Bautista who are all on the provisional entry list. Spanish Superbike champion and Euro Flat Track Festival organiser, Kenny Noyes is in and Troy Bayliss is confirmed too.
No Rossi or Hayden though.

OPEN CLASS
For dirt track specialists and other disciplines, plus those who qualified through the DTRA championship and Kenny Noyes European Dirt Track Festival.
From America, Brad Baker is back and joined by 2014 number 1, Jared Mees.
UK riders include multiple DTRA champ Aidan Collins; current DTRA champ Tim Neave and European Dirt Track Festival champ Tom Neave; Alan Birtwistle and Ollie Brindley.
Dirt Quake III chopper class champion Guy Martin is racing too.

The Ballerina on the Golden Bicycle

To carry on the bicycle madness, it's a long, long time since we announced a new god or goddess, but now is the moment.
Tony Hawk: whatever. Ken Block: meh. Travis Pastrana: is that all you've got?
Check out Lilly Yokoi and prepare to have your frontal lobes spontaneously turn into broken biscuits.
I urge you to take the four-and-a-bit minutes to watch this.

And yeah, there'll be another motorbike post along in a few hours, or there's about 4500 behind this one. December 2010 was a good month on the Sideblog, if you want to relive past glories. G

François Gissy World's Fastest Gas-Powered Bicycle

I'd like to see François go head-to-head with Colin Furze's pulse jet he fired up at Dirt Quake III. BP

Mule Racing

Mule doesn't just consistently build the world's best trackers and develop parts for you to fit to yours, he also races. And he's fast. Really fast.

I traded off the TT500 you rode at Perris and I’m racing the CRF450 I got in trade, plus I got my 125 bike. Here’s a couple shots on the CR125 (pictured in action). Also, the 450 (below) in work being set up.
Cheers, Mule

Out of this World

Amazing photo from Dom at Kriega

Got back from LA - Vegas trip a couple of weeks ago... nice riding, particularly liked the deep sand (dried out river beds) it's like being in a canoe down rapids. The picy is of a 'sink' hole caused by flash floods above.
