From Troy C. Love the goggles and full-face combo, very Toecutter. Still can't, and never will, get onboard with the swastika fetish, though. Thanks Troy.

Hi Sl4sh When it's on a chopper it's not good luck, it's provocative. I know the original HA and punks did it to wind up the squares. Still don't like what it stands for. G
it has nothing to do with the buddist svastika, although is a rip off as sl4sh said first of all is inverted and is a pure provocative act as gary pointed out of course hell's angels, are kings of provocation an immediately adopted it
i really can't stand watching it it's amazing the power of the symbol tho, almoast 70 years after is still so powerful
I think 50s/60s Bikers in US would had better luck pissing off Squares with the Communist symbol(or even Imperial Japan flag) than the Swastica , Russians/Japanese where more hated by Americans back then than Nazis...
In Europe is more shocking i think because lots of peole saw first hand their houses, their people and their countries to get destroyed!
ah yes, I didn't notice it's the right hand version in the first picture well, I guess the idea is the same: I've been following a little the japanese vintage chopper scene and they seem to try very hard to annoy square", which in japan I guess are squarer... the bikes are beautiful, btw
Is there something to be read into the fact that the HD Springer fella's had to be chained to the bike ?
ReplyDeletekeep in mind that in Japan and the far east in general, the swastika is a buddist symbol of luck. It was "stolen" by the nazi

- that's a good point Giannis.
ReplyDeleteMaybe contemporary chopper riders should adopt Osama Bin Laden insignia instead?
