Bubble Visor [far right; cowboy hat and full-face] our Amsterdam connection concerning all things Japanese and colourful, sent us a query about our
project bike...
Hi Ben,
i saw on SideBlog you bought a FT500, cool! i did some research on the bike and i found out it has a twin brother.. the VT500 Ascot [shown above]. is there a reason why you went for the single cylinder, instead of the twin with more power...? Styling-wise there doesn't seem to be a lot of difference between the two [standard bikes]. The FT would be a little lighter which would make some sense :)
cheers LennyDear Mr Bubble,
the FT passed under our balcony like a maiden in the night, and we couldn't resist her charms. Basically. BP.
during my years in So Cal I for a while had a Honda VT 500 Ascot and back then it was quite a crap bike, traded it for a Kawasaki K 1300 and keept wheeling down Olympic Blvd for a while, the K 1300 was later traded for a Suzuki RGV 500 Gamma that was traded for a (Tom Crusie) 900 Ninja that was wrecked....

Two awesome photos. Don't know who took the top one, I think my wife took he bottom one though. Flemington, NJ, about 25 summers ago. The trophy was purchased at a flea market a couple weeks before the race. Its in a barn in Maine now.

ReplyDeleteI lied/ was joking, about that being Bubble Visor in the cowboy (as you will have realized).
What a great photo!
are you all riding CB250/350s?
Which one is you then?
Got any more from the same day?
Did you fill the trophy with moonshine?
BP
That was the inaugural CB Cup Race. The rules were simple; you couldn't spend more than 50 cents per CC for a CB/CL 350. We found 'em in garages all over the place. Stripped 'em and gassed around this field till we were too thirsty to ride. I'm #3, my brother Mark is #33, my best man Bill is #9, Leo is the cowboy and Alex is dearly departed from this world.
ReplyDeleteWe poured some cheap champagne in the trophy, tried to drink it but the silver polish made it undrinkable.
Bill won the race. Twice.
Now it's your turn...who provided the evidence? I suspect Leo...
Great Story #39
ReplyDeleteLenny Bubble Visor sent me the photo(s) with the original post question, so he must have just found it out there on the net - is it on your own blog?
