The boys who just can't say 'No'. Following on the from the FT500, that is making steady progress at our mate Carl's house, we've already bought another project bike. It's a 2002 Husaberg FE400. A rare, exotic, enduro bike we know nothing about, bought on a whim. Oh yes, we're quite the professionals around here. No idea what we're going to do with it. Push it from one shed to another for a few months then land it on someone to sort? Sounds like a plan! GI
Ah yes, the widow-maker. And that left-foot kickstart, eh? Former world endurance front-runner Kekki Heidenglaub famously said that he'd rather kick his own grandmother in the face than kick start a Husaberg.
ReplyDelete... of course, when I said 'endurance' I did mean 'enduro'. It's been a tiring and emotional day here, not least talking to dear old Kekki about his face kicking days.
ReplyDeleteHaven't you noticed the SB project bike connection Mick?
ReplyDeletethe Cagiva Elepant (that never transpired)
the Honda FT500, and now this Husaberg -
They're all from the Lemon family.
But mark my words, we're going to Jamie Oliver them into something tasty with a minimum of fuss. Salivation guarenteed.

Less is more Ben, less is more
ReplyDeleteAmen
ReplyDelete2002 was the year all husabergs wanted to selfdestruct.... update the bearings asap...
ReplyDeleteRight! Change the oil and nothing else, then fill it with gas and RIDE IT. I promise you'll learn a whole lot if you just spend some time on it, in the woods, on a moto track, whenever and wherever you can. (I know I have anyway)
ReplyDeleteOK, check the bearings too.
ReplyDeleteanother idea,(something I've been trying to get to for the past two winters) get some Trellebourg spike tires ready for the snow crossing in Bregenzerwald! Or if you are really good, speak to Boastie about thophe Andros...
ReplyDeleteCool bike!
ReplyDeleteDid my thesis project for Husaberg back in 2000. Great bike and it would make a rare street tracker! That would be awesome to follow on the blog, so start cutting it up! /Marcus
oh god, don't tell carl! when he raced supermoto the track was always littered with broken down husabergs and the pits was full of people desperately trying to kick them into life. once running they fly but like someone else said 2002 was a bad year for them so you wanna get those bearings changed
ReplyDeleteDon't knock the left-side kicker. Better to start an engine standing next to the bike using the right leg, and let it warm up first. Then launch side-saddle, left foot on the peg, hiking the right leg over the saddle as we catch speed. More graceful and comfortable than giving yourself a wedgie by straddling from the ground before starting. Also no hideous ground-waddling. The left-kicker Huseborg is in excellent company with my dear old Bultaco Metralla and Suzuki X6 Hustlers. And less-beloved /2 Beemer.
ReplyDeleteI got an 02 Berg just the same WITH elecky starter so no crap starting , anyway anyone who can't kick that poxy lil motor over at 9000rpm don't deserve a bike !
ReplyDeleteRide it Gazza they're great .
Oh and as Mr Heath says , warm it up before u stall it.......
fits straight into a co-built chassis
