Dave Stewart of Thundersport GB is running a mini winter series for supermoto at Donnington Park on the December 5th and Mallory on Jan 16th. We've been in talks with Dave and he is willing to run a Shorttrack Class at both rounds. The tracks will be on Tarmac but the good news is it will be an oval, so we can still run without a front brake. Both rounds will be covered on Eurosport TV and there is Prize Fund up for grabs.
To Run the Class we must have at least 20 confirmed riders for the events. The entry fees are £85 per round ( cheaper than a track day), an ACU Shorttrack licence will cover you for the event or you can take a one day licence out. If you wish to ride please contact the Shorttrack office (01673 878426) no later than 16th November.
Program cover and video via Racers Reunion. The Video gets better after the first 90 secs or so.
UPDATE: ONLY FOUR RIDERS NEEDED TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN.
Went to one of the MARS races on the banked oval car track in Volusia years back....but the race was abandoned during practice....it was deemed too dangerous due to some oil on the track and the number of serious accidents before the racing had even started! Only for the really brave methinks!
ReplyDeleteI suppose only the lack of front brakes is making it more dangerous than normal road racing on tarmac. G
ReplyDeleteI dunno... these guys are broadsliding on grippy tarmac, just like on the dirt...it takes a lot of effort (physical and mental)to get the bike to slide like that.... shredding tyres and sparks flying from the steel shoes. Maybe here in the UK, racers will adapt a more conservative supermoto-style to the cornering? What tyres are people running?
ReplyDeleteIt's a real pity we can't get some tv coverage for the UK dirt track racing thats already established
Hey up Dave,
ReplyDeleteIf I can get 20 riders we will get TV coverage and if it looks good then at least it will get people Talking about our bikes etc and thats got to be good for the sport, wether on dirt or not. They might come and film Braintree witch is on Dirt and would look pretty good aithough they want £1800 to do it but Dave stuart (Mr Thundersport) might be able pull few strings to get it Cheaper. I'm 4 riders short at moment, I know It sounds bit dangerous but unlike the states where there is only guard rail to hit there is some run off where we would be riding, for sure I wish it was on Dirt on 1/2 mile clay oval under flood lights ! but we got to take what chances we get and give it ago
Pete
Any of you thunderbike riders havin a go?
ReplyDeletei will if I am not the only one!!
ReplyDeletePete let me know if you dont have enough people
That's what I was thinking,have to give boastie a ring 2moro!!
ReplyDeleteI went to the race on that poster. Will Davis was amazing.
ReplyDeleteThat same winter (maybe?) I went to an indoor flattrack event in a rodeo barn in NC. I was just goofing around in a 100CC class. There were smashed cars (for the "monster trucks" later)parked inside the corners. Will was out practicing and I dove under him on my little rat bike to say "I passed Will Davis". The next corner he hit the dirt mound by the monster trucks and passed me back, by jumping over me!
