Dirt Quake Race Classes and Regulations

We've had lots of interest already, so thanks for that. Below are most, if not all, of the details those thinking of racing need to know.
Very few rules, very few regs, very little money to spend.
Some sand racers have been in touch. We'd love to have them involved, but because they ride race bikes (even in the Mablethorpe road bike class) they need to be in the STUK novice class - not Inappropriate Road Bike. As for racing scooters. They need to be road legal to be an inappropriate road bike. Sounds like there's nearly enough interest for a scooter class at Short Track races in future... G

INAPPROPRIATE ROAD BIKE (IRB)
REGS. Bike must be road legal, with lights (taped up) and registration plate.
ENTRY. £15 in advance. Cheque payable to Sideburn magazine
LICENCE: £5 for day licence, payable to STUK on the day.
RACE TIMES: One practice session plus three x 4-lap heats between 4.30 and 7.

STREET TRACKER
Regs: Road legal street tracker. Registration plate and working tail light.
ENTRY: £15 in advance. Cheque payable to Sideburn magazine
LICENCE: £5 for day licence, payable to STUK on the day.
RACE TIMES: One practice session plus three x 4-lap heats between 4.30 and 7.

CHOPPER
REGS: It’s got to be a chopper or custom, baby. Doesn’t have to be road legal, but must look like a chopper. Hardtails and softtails accepted. Stock looking factory customs should be in Inappropriate Road Bike class.
ENTRY: £15 in advance. Cheque payable to Sideburn magazine
LICENCE: £5 for day licence, payable to STUK on the day.
RACE TIMES: One practice session plus three x 4-lap heats between 4.30 and 7. PLUS Chopper final at approximately 9pm.

Each of these three classes is limited to eight entries. All bikes must be approved before final entry is accepted (send Sideburn a photo of it). Races will be flag start. Grid is two rows of four bikes. Each rider will get one front row and one second row start. The final heat will be determined by finishes in previous two heats.
Only the chopper class gets a subsequent final.
Bikes in the IRB, Chopper and Street tracker classes do not need a lanyard cut-out (but all other race bikes do), but we want all bikes to have rear sprockets covered with a ‘shark’s fin’ or similar to stop fingers and toes being damaged/lost.

CLOTHING: Helmet, eye protection, boots, long sleeves, long trousers and gloves must be worn.

RIDER SAFETY MEETING: All riders must attend a rider safety meeting held in the pits before taking to the track.

INDEMNITY: All riders will be asked to sign an indemnity on the day. Motorcycle racing can be dangerous. But you knew that. It’s great fun. This is your chance to become a motorcycle racer in front a big crowd, even just for one day.

SHORT TRACK UK NOVICE
This is for geared race bikes (sand racers, classic MX etc, not speedway) that don’t fit into the other categories. This is Short Track UK’s very popular and entertaining entry-level class. Bikes are a mixture of modified road bikes of all sizes, DTX (modified 450 motocrossers) and pure dirt track ‘framers’.
REGS: You will enter under an X Plate so you are able to use any spec of tyres for this one ‘taster’ race. Low right footpegs are prohibited. They can’t be lower than the frame rail. Bikes must have a rear brake and no front (or disconnected front, removed lever). Bikes need lanyard cut-outs and ‘shark’s fin’ sprocket cover. Riders must have numbers on their front board, side number boards and the back of their shirt/leathers. STUK will give you a number.
ENTRY: £40 in advance. Payable to Short Track UK.
LICENCE: £5 for day licence, payable to STUK.
RACE TIMES: Awaiting final confirmation, but sign-on is approx 10-11. Practice from 11. Racing from 12-4.30. All to be confirmed.

  2. Is there a noise limit please?
For example, if I equip my 60's 2 stroke drag bike with knobblies, will it qualify for any class? Equally, bRothersthorpe tummy twin on knobblies, no lights, but brakes everything work - from your description this wouldn't pass???

  4. Ben, you realise you're looking at regs for the first ever Dirt Quake back in 2012? You've just missed Dirt Quake VI, so wait 8 months or so and keep your eyes on http://dirtquake.com/ for next year's event.
