(rewinding a bit). Calculating you've got an 888 mile / 14 hour 49 minute road trip ahead of you just for a weekend jolly, and then the same back again Sunday, half-cut, demands some psyching up. But Gary's T5 VW is magic. It flies. Our offices are 179 miles apart so it's good to talk face to face for a change.
1st stop chez Death Spray. Then catching the tail of exotica on the way to Le Mans for the 24hrs. The Lola we met on the Chunnel was actually going to Spa for a free reign. It's always magic when the satnav shows a big chunk of beckoning blue ocean. Our coach-house B&B was just a drunken stone's throw from the chateau which was handy too. Time and miles compressed.VW Luxury doesn't extend to electric windows or a CD player, so I dug out some old C90 cassettes and revisited some yesteryear favourites Señor Coconut and the Kraftwerk covers of Y Su Conjunto – El Baile Alemán. It was destined to be a great weekend. BP
A fine choice of music indeed. I'm currently playing Yellow Fever! Senor Coconut Plays The Music Of The Yellow Magic Orchestra.
ReplyDeleteWhere are the speeder bike helmets available from???
ReplyDeleteBet ur glad the ldv died!!.
ReplyDeleteThe Speeder helmet is an official George Lucas 'toy' (try emailing Death Spray Custom from his blog if you want more info). It's very plasticy, you would better off sliding down the road in a yogurt pot.
ReplyDeleteA friend of my Dad designed the Stormtrooper helmets and they were even more flimsy vac-form plastic. BP
Gutted :'-(
ReplyDeleteLooks like a cheeky belter of a do, though i'd have fucked that tape out of the wind-down window toot sweet.
ReplyDeleteSideburn ride-out next year? Open invite, halfway coastal campsite, usual caveats of no arseholes, no hands-held, no whiners?
Hi Dan
ReplyDeleteI'm not interested in organising ride-outs. I don't even like going on them much. The Southsiders one was fine for a couple of hours, but then it descended into riding for a mile or two and stopping to wait for those who'd got stuck at lights, got lost, etc. It was 180km and by the end the group split and used 4 different routes to get back. So, those who want to ride together can ride together, but big groups and big distances don't work in my book.

14 hours of Senor Coconut? Loco!
ReplyDeleteGI
ReplyDeleteI wasnt thinking road captains, blocked junctions, weird hand signals, schedules - but a dirty bikers' dozen sideburners, fluid, relaxed, leaderless, meeting at the ferry, agreeing on a midpoint campsite, could be ace, and wouldnt need top-down organising or daily stressing. I'll do it, if i'm about, if people fancy a similar run to the sun next year.
Suerte, Dan
That would work. G
ReplyDeleteMaybe Señor Coconut could play live at the campsite? Mojitos all round!
ReplyDeletePS I've just noticed, is that Dave Aldana on Sax?
BP
Intoxicated, sitting around the old camp fire with Senor Coconut playing Smoke On The Water. What could be better?
