DGR 2014

The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride has exploded. Well, not literally, but there are clearly a load of folk doing it this year. And it all happens this Sunday.

This weekend, there are 255 charity rides (raising money for prostate cancer research) in 57 countries. And Triumph are corporate sponsors of the whole thing.

Baybutt of the Corpses From Hell reminded us he's organised one in Sheffield (UK). You can sponsor him here.

For details on your nearest ride, go to Distinguished Gentleman's Ride. G

  3. Just in case some of the readers from Italy have a look at your post and would like to participate to the Rome event with a scooter like the one in your pictures... Oh well, please, JUST DON'T!
In Italy, and in Rome in particular, we do have thousands of people going to their offices in jacket and tie every morning, crowding the city roads, often without respecting the basic rules and the other riders, and we do not want our yearly distinguished ride becomes just an ordinary day in the traffic jam, with an ordinary moped and an ordinary suit... The DGR Rome is hence reserved to custom/cafe racer/bobber/scrambler/classic/vintage bikes only. Only really old, full metal vintage scooters will be allowed... I had to tell it. Sorry if I did. But just in case.
Thanks for posting and supporting the DGR mates!!!

  4. Woah, that's a lot of rules.
But I do wonder if this looks like an ordinary day to you, perhaps Rome doesn't need a DGR, but something else...
Anyway, it's for charity, I should keep my mouth shut. Carry on. G

  6. Bit hypocritical if I'm asked to be an ambassador for the DGR (on my helix) and then turn people away on similarly plastic bikes! Plus, if I only let in custom/cafe racer/bobber/scrambler/classic/vintage bikes there'd be very few people to raise money and awareness for prostate cancer. Thanks for the share G. Viva la plastica.

  7. Sorry mates, I'm only staying with the worldwide rules and with the original idea of the ride.
If it's "just" for rising funds, why not setting up a TV show and forget about bikes? Why not throwing a rave in a Stadium? Why not on feet? Or cars? After all, car drivers are certainly more than bikers, and the fundsrising could work even better.
You probably don't know my town and the way the traffic works: yes, thousands of scooters full of people in jacket and tie are crossing the city every single day bringing their riders at work. Where is the news in bringing them together on Sunday then? Where is the distinction?
No distinction. It would be just another ordinary day. Sorry for that. I can be easily wrong and I'm not "racist"... I think this is a ride of distintinction and it's a ride for classic and custom bikes. In each place distinction can be different... Riding in swimming suit in Alaska is certainly different than in Baha California. Hope you'll get the difference.
I think this ride has to be different and different shades of distinction must be appreciated locally.
A man with a tye on a scooter in Rome is less distintinctive than a leaf on a tree.
    By the way, I don't like plastic, and I don't like sh1t.
If it doesn't fit with the DGR, Next year I'll be dealing with something else.
    Yours faithfully

  8. Is that a handbag I see clutched tightly to your chest, InazumaLuke? Hey, don't worry, your ride out will be a great success. Enjoy it! And I promise I won't sully the event with the SH1T.

  9. Thank you Mick! I'll do. Uh uh... Don't you think my handbag is a dam cool touch of ambiguity for a perfect look?

  10. It's perfect Luke. Anyway, what bike will you be riding on Sunday?

...Ehm... which, in English for foreign speakers, means?

  14. Haha. "Who would have thought it?", ie, "Who could have guessed that it would happen".
