Chris Carr night tickets

Thanks to all those who've bought tickets in advance for Chris Carr night. We're going to put names on a list on the door rather than print and send out tickets.

In addition to everything else that's going on (leathers auction, Q&A, talk, beer...), we're going to have stands from Red Max, the Flat Track Experience School, Short Track UK and Sideburn (selling issue 4 - God willing). Plus we have the world's best street tracker on show (no shit), plus the original pre-production XR750 - the very first one of its type and the Phantom!
It's going to be a dirt track Love-in. GI

West Country Massive

Massive Attack finished their UK tour with a gig at the Swindon Oasis - sadly not in the domed pool with palm trees and wave machine, where I used to swim as a kid, but in the not so idyllic sweaty sports hall. Massive Attack are getting on, but they are not embarrassing like some other aging pop heroes of my youth. They do seem to evolve, even if the crowd save most of their cheer for the classics. The singer Martina Topley-Bird; who came to light on Tricky's first album Maxinquaye, has joined them on tour. Their new material is dark, backed up by a light show of giant flashing text messages and banks of abstract strobes. It's not necessary to get off your tits beforehand. tomorrow night they play Dublin, then head off to tour the rest of Europe. Recommended. BP

The Phantom

Now you're not going to be getting this new-age bone shaker sideways on the shingle, but you will crick the neck of every man, woman and child; and small animal, on the high street. Norton powerd, and some tastefuly 'disguised' modern pleasantries mean you can rev the nuts off it and possibly even get a wheelie out of it? More SB#4 Love action. BP

Ariel Red Hunter

Now SB#4 is at the printers, I decided to take a long overdue day off with the Mrs. Amble into town, have a frothy coffee, do some shopping, hell maybe even take in an art gallery. But something much more exciting happened. We came across this Ariel 500 single - guaranteed 100 mph performance in 1932 (or so the factory claimed). A bit too shiny for my taste, but the detailing is amazing. I just had to go down on it. "Go on take my photo!" I demanded. Then the owner came out and caught me, just as I was about to squirt it with Brasso. BP

Hot Dog Plagiarism

Way back, when I talked to our T-shirt printers about the possibility of printing our Dick Mann design half off the front, tucked under the arm, they must have thought I was an arrogant upstart. They'd not done it before, but as the material is woven in a tube (without side seams) they said they would give it a go "- But no promises mind, as to if it will work". Well now it seems like our slippery fellow has influenced this baby GAP hot dog. That sequined lined Paisley waistcoat is pretty groovy, maybe we should incorporate that into our next design? BP

Another teaser from SB#4... Now when we started Sideburn, we did zer0 market research, but you don't need a PHD in media studies to know there are a thousand-and-one; or more, chopper magazines out there (and about a zillion-and-one; at the last count, chopper blogs) . Hence we made a strict No Choppers door policy for the magazine (they do sneak in through the kitchen of the SBlog very occasionally). But then along comes Gary Griffin - Mr Goodluck Photos, with this knobbly-clad H-D going sideways on concrete, and you cant argue with that - or Mr Rouser's tattoo gun, can you now?
Funnily enough at that same moment we are thinking 'Hmm Respeck' a certain Dan Walsh is dragging 'A Way Out' - the self-same bike, out of his nets after a night's internet trawling, and thinking 'Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?' So when we contacted him out of the blue, to write the story, the coincidence was complete. BP

Lots going on in England

Co-Built have a new website. They're a small firm of riders and racers who build neat frame sets for singles (or parallel twins), triple clamps, race pipes and complete bikes. Co-Built 1 is going well in the UK series.

Our fans have been patient - or just got bored of banging on our door, and gone home. "When the blazes is SB#4 going to be ready?!" Well we can now answer the proverbial question with: '7.35cm', and the second with: 'it's at the printers!' Ye Gads, I can hardly believe it myself.
