Skooter Farm Racing

Team Skooter Farm are referred to a lot on this blog, but I don't know if they've ever been explained. The team's founders are old friends from the North-West of England Dave Arnold and Jon 'Captain Highside' Lee. I met up with the fellas and was invited to joining the team about five years ago. We were proud of our record of at least one member of team racing every single round of the UK short track series and crashing at least once a round. Then we all got a bit better (Jon was always bloody good, to be honest), so Dave invited new blood to join to maintain the crashing record. Jason and Steve Red Max joined in 2008 and Wilky debuted at the last race of 2009.
At full strength there are six of us with the invaluable help of Joe, Louise and Diane making sure we don't miss a heat (easier said than done as we all run two classes).
The team are spread over the full length of the country and are nothing more than a few mates who love racing. It's a social club. If I hadn't have met Dave and Jon I probably wouldn't be racing now and I certainly wouldn't be having as much fun.
And everyone is working in their garages on their bikes for the new season. I was proud of the team when I got this photo of his new hand-painted (not stickers) tank from Jason this morning. The season's nearly here and Skooter Farm are getting ready to race. GI

Dirt Diggers Dinosaur TT

I found this fantastic photo on MotorCycho. This guy has got incredible style. The photo name reference the Dirt Digger Dinosaur TT. I didn't know anything about it, but it seems like it is/was held at Perris. A quick google showed the great photo below of CycleNut48 on his Cheney BSA. Absolute class.
Anyway got more info. GI

Particle Accelerator

Dave Skooter Farm is not a soul to do things by halves, so it's hardly surprising the neighbours have already started complaining about his private practice track, "no bigger than a dining room table Scalextric track. Honest". Well how come it shows up on Google Earth as being bigger than the Franco-Swiss CERN particle accelerator then Dave? Apparently most complaints have not been about the 'WwwwaaaaAP-WwwwwaaaAP' of small motorcycles having their necks wrung, but the incessant schoolgirl-like giggling. BP

Tallon

The home of the Flying Ospreys has burned down. There’s no insurance, no money in the bank. What now? Club captain Jo Tallon has an idea. Read the under the covers by torch-light, comic book saga, in SB#5. BP

My mate has a thing about Freddie Spencer

The helmets are all replicas, some bought already painted, some he painted up himself, the leathers and boots are real ex-Spencer kit.
If you want your own bit of Fast Freddie memorabilia, the NSR250 and NS500 from his incredible double-winning year are up for sale as a pair for, I've heard, $1 million. If you're going to get married, make sure you don't get divorced. Via Speed Junkies. GI

HOW

This is our second to last tear-sheet teaser for SB#5. Words and photos from the German globe trotter Frank Kletschkus; this time in the Oz outback. An Indian Scout with a heart transplant (I think the owner must have had one too, but of a 16 year old, judging from his merciless abuse of an antique). Any minute now our Sideburn website man Kar Lee, will up-date our shop page. SB#5 should be back from the printers in less than a week. BP

Project FT Update

We bought a cheapie Apico clutch lever that was anodised a hideous off-gold, then had our friends at Racefit re-anodise it black. Carl's stuck the tyres on the original rims too. The front is a Dunlop K180 race tyre (thanks Jason), the rear is a brand new, Van-Van front Dunlop K180 road tyre (thanks Bryn).
Now we need some discs, but we want a bigger 320mm disc for the front (because we've swapped the forks) and can't find one that will fit the hub. It looks like we'll have to get one made up. G
