Sparky

Mark Burkhart.. he won the 450 Supermoto series the year before.. and won that day too. Ran away with it actually ..no one even close. Both 250 and 450 were won by Yamaha riders.. sadly the race had really poor publicity and not many spectators showed up. The series isn't coming to Seattle this year not suprisingly. I'd be suprised if there even is a series in a year... all the racers and teams were very approachable in the open pits and thankful of people coming out to watch. I was even able to show Mark Burkhart that photo right afer he won the race. He thought it was a cool shot. I sent it to Yamaha.. but never heard back from them. Troy Critchlow

What an amazing photo, it captures the speed and grace of supermoto perfectly! It would look great printed and hanging on my wall! ;)

Supermoto is struggling in Australia too, though it's still going strong in Europe as evidenced by purpose built Supermoto tracks like Pleven in Bulgaria. Locally we've taken to roadracing our Motards, it's the only option available at the moment and it shows how versatile the bikes are.

Supermoto is a great spectacle for for fans, a race can be run almost anywhere without the need for a permanent track and racebikes are [relatively] cheap, it's hard to see how such a great idea can fail so spectacularly as it has in the USA?

I'm looking forward to a return to form for Supermoto racing globally. In the meantime you can find a lot of us Supermoto refugees at the roadrace tracks.
