Corroding aluminium gave me senility paranoia for a moment, so I did some research on the interwebs and concluded it does Not cause Alzheimer's. What was I just talking about? BP
Mick, the important thing is that you must *never* wash it: the coffee "patina" that builds up over time protects the aluminium and guarantees great taste. Also, if you enjoy those, you may really like the naples style flip pot http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neapolitan_flip_coffee_pot Ciao!
We have two aluminium ones, one stainless and we use them all, no problem. They get washed but NEVER with soap, just rinsed. The biggest no-no is leaving the aluminium ones sitting unopened after use for a day or more, because the alloy in the water compartment really suffers.

Shame they're made out of aluminium and ruin easily. Lots of stainless versions out there that are (IMHO) better.
