Naptha Soap


Totally confused as what the advertising message is here?! But a nice painting (via Otto Nero) of someone's boney legged Nan getting it sideways. BP

Look closely at the pic and you can see on the reproduction of the box that it says "Shale Oil", which I assume the soap contains (or is based on). So, there's yer link. Still a bizarre ad, mind.

OK, I couldn't help mooching. Naptha (aka naphtha) can be obtained from the refining of shale oil. CWS is Cooperative Wholesale Society, and might refer to the organisation set up in the north of England in the late 19th Century, but might also refer to an offshoot elsewhere in the world. Australia is a possibility, which would make sense given the origins of speedway.
Too knackered to look any further and I've already spent too long at the screen today...
