Bacon and egg loaf

Anyone who loves that trad biker fare of the bacon sarnie (or variations thereof, right up to the all day breakfast bap) would love this. It's a typically Neapolitan thing called casatiello, but my resourceful wife knows a place to get it here in Rome. It's a slightly sweet bread with egg, salami and ham mixed into the dough before baking. It's only done at Easter, hence the crazy egg on the top. This was the smallest they had - they can go to mental five and six eggers. We had it for Good Friday breakfast and it was a near-religious experience. MP

Casatiello is proof that God exists and that he likes food...

A thing of beauty - which reminds me, I gotta lose a few pounds, you should have seen the look on my suspension guy's face today when I told him the awful truth!
