XR750 for sale on UK eBAY. This is the seller's description, not ours. We don't know anything about this bike. Thanks to Simon M for the tip-off. G
In 1985 the bikes engine was rebuilt at the end of the race season ready for the next season by Jim Kelly the top XR race engine builder of his time but was exported to the UK & was not started again (as far as I know) until I purchased the bike April 2009. The intention was to road register the road, I fitted an R6 forks & front end complete with front brake as recommended & used by Chris Carr on his XR750. The bike has a current MOT which expires 05/05/11. I also have a letter of age authenticity for road registration accepted by the DVLA as proof of age so I could obtain a date related plate for road use.
History : Introduced in 1970, the XR 750 has been the dominant machine on American half mile ovals and TT tracks for over three decades, seeing off challenges from the likes of Triumph, Yamaha and Honda. The XR replaced the previously dominant KR ‘flat head’, which had reached the end of its development life, and debuted in ‘iron’ form before being superseded in 1972 by the all-alloy version. Recognising the fact that riders preferred to choose their own frames and suspension components, the factory stopped making its own frames in the 1980s, thereafter acting only as a supplier of engines.
This XR-750 was built in 1985 for Scott Pearson, who raced with the number ‘95’ plate that season, by Jim Kelly who later became Jay Springsteen’s builder/tuner, would have been partnered by a similar machine set up for different tracks. Scott Pearson had at one time ranked number ‘5’ in the Winston Pro standings and had won many races including half miles at Louisville, Kentucky, Gardena, California and the TT at Peoria, Illinois. The alloy engine, which was prepared to the highest standard & runs great, is housed in a Mert Lawill frame with Marzocchi forks now up-rated to Yamaha R6 (still have the original Marzocchi forks) running 19” wheels with flat track tyres, Grimeca rear break & Yamaha R6 front which can be easily removed for racing. The engine breathes via two 38mm flat-slide Mikuni carburettors and a 2”-bore stainless-steel exhaust system fitted with Supertrapp megaphones. Ignition is by magneto. It has an electric primary starter facility for easy starting the starter is supplied but will need heaver starter motor fitted.
The front race number-plate is signed by Scott Pearson and still bears original AMA scrutineer’s tags. I have a couple of spare Tyres which will go with the bike. This machine represents an real opportunity to acquire an excellent example of an legendary original AMA race bike with pedigree history.

I came across this bike many years ago when it was owned by a guy called Mark George who I think brought it over from the US in the early 90s and kept it in his office in original stright from the track condition. I've seen it advertised a few times in the intervening years and guess that it changed hands on maybe a couple of occasions. I hope it goes to a good home.
Wants somebody to buy it and join us on the track in Thunderbikes in the UK really !
Get yer cash oot !

Mark George.... original Widow and man of immaculate taste in motorcycles.
Pity no one else did on UK eBay...
bike ahs been bought by one of my good friends. He is a Sportster nut with more than a few of them in safe keeping. He is a real biker with a passion for these beasts. So it is fair to say that a more capable pair of hands could not be found for the bike.
