German Architecture

Damning the wisdom of those with more of it (especially Jan Leek) headstrong I went and bought some secondhand 19" BMW snowflake wheels today, for my CCM tracker conversion. Couldn't resist these /7 series nut-less handlebar clamps either. A sort of cherry on the top of a cake still in the mixing bowl. Saturday I'm taking the bike and assorted bits to CoBuilt in Oxford, for some jiggery pokery to fit some of their lush yokes mated with Yamaha R6 forks. About bloody time. BP

I've used BMW upper ber clamps on my Trackmaster bikes with Ceriani yokes because they look so neat. I think Laverda also used some similar ones, slightly less teardrop shape which I have on my XR

Ok then, it really is OK Ben. We simply have to assume that wheels are less stressed in dirt-track than they were on the road (when I was young - you know, the older I get, the faster I was).

- My thinking too Jan.
I'm not Chris Carr, & it's for short track racing, not mile. My top speed will be embarrassing low. I'm more likely to break a fingernail.

One of the wheels I bought is date stamped '79, making it a pre-factory recall item, without the extra webbing around the hub. I saw the R80/7 it came from, it had been dry stored since 1986, it was mint condition & a give-away price. I could sense you waving your 'No No' finger, but I still bought it. I will use it on the front as with no brake it has less stress, it's also actually 8mm narrower.

Another thing I didn't realize is, how damn heavy they are. You said they were made from too soft a metal, maybe it's lead?!

Stevie it will be a small miracle if I manage to get the bike (or my sequins) finished in time, but if the gods give speed to all those involved in the equation, I'm certainly up for it.

Think you should seriously consider white wheels. Break with your principles..
