Sideburn 26: World Exclusive

Earlier this year Guy Martin established the record for highest speed on a wall of death riding a Krazy Horse-prepared Indian Scout at 70.3mph. He then went out on his own Rob North BSA Rocket triple and raised the record to 78mph and change, while being subjected to 7G.

You haven't read about the Rob North because it hasn't been featured in any magazines in the world. Until now. Guy only wanted the bike in one magazine, Sideburn.

It was shot in Grimsby for Sideburn by Sam Christmas. We also had Mick Ofield create a blueprint of Guy's bike and highly respected journalist Mick Duckworth write about the history of Rob North and his famous racing frames.

There is only one place to read these features - in the beautifully printed Sideburn 26.

20 Years of Krazy Horse

The best bike shop in the UK? We think so.
Krazy Horse are celebrating their 20th year of business this summer.

They stock an eclectic mix of brand new bikes from Zaeta, Norton, MV Agusta, Indian, Victory, Avinton, Zero and Paton, plus their own custom creations. They have a car showroom retailing Morgans, too.

In addition, the two-storey dealership has a great parts department, large workshop with dyno, clothing and helmet shop and a wonderful diner. And it's all run by cool staff. What's not to like? It's one of the few destination dealers in the UK, somewhere worth riding to just for a burger or a couple of spark plugs, and to hang out for an hour, unlike all the identikit regular dealers the big brands foisted on us from the early-1990s onwards.

Check out one of KH's theme nights when they open late. The car park is something to behold. G

Guy Martin's Wall of Death

Don't forget to watch Guy Martin's Wall of Death tonight, 7.15, Channel 4. There are lots of Sideburn intersections in the Venn diagram of this attempt.

1. Guy is a long-time supporter of Sideburn and has agreed to write a regular column for each issue starting with Sideburn 24.
He also wrote about racing at Dirt Quake for Sideburn 23.

2. He will ride more than one bike on the wall (if all goes to plan). He has been practicing on, and will ride, an Indian Scout, that's been seriously modified by our mates at Krazy Horse. Guy has raced the Krazy Horse Sportster at the previous two Dirt Quakes and first met Paul from Krazy Horse at Rollerburn, our 2011 event.

3. Guy's mentor through the event has been Ken Fox, and one of the Fox family's Wall of Death is returning to this year's Dirt Quake. Get your Dirt Quake tickets now.

The cover was shot at Dirt Quake IV by Becky Matthews. Look closely and you can see Guy grinning as he powers to victory on the Krazy Horse Sportster. Guy writes the event report for DQIV in SB23.

Krazy Horse Events 2016

Krazy Horse might be the nicest motorcycle 'destination' shop in the UK (The Bike Shed is up there too) and their monthly events draw huge crowds to sleepy Bury St Edmonds. The first three dates of the year are on the poster above. They have loose themes, but everyone's welcome. They feature bands and good food and attract an eclectic variety of vehicles to fill the huge car park. Get along to one.

In other Krazy Horse news, the Suffolk store is now an official MV Agusta dealer. The Italian brand joins Indian, Norton, Victory, Zaeta, Morgan, Avinton and Paton in an high-end roster of marques the company offers as brand new bikes. I can't think of anyone else in the UK (or anywhere else for that matter) that has a similar line-up. They build their own customs too, and have a great diner and clothes department.

We made this special edition of the current issue for the Guy Martin Proper official website. The cover image is of Guy racing the Krazy Horse Harley Sportster at Dirt Quake IV, last summer. The photo was taken by Becky Matthews and you can even see the smile on his face as he slides the trusty Harley to victory. And Guy wrote the Dirt Quake report for Sideburn 23.

Dirt Quake IV: Thanks

We’re just recovering from Dirt Quake IV, but wanted to put this out.

This is one of the stars of a show that was packed with them. Guy Martin is admiring the special trophy that one of our fellow DTRA racers, Neil Martin (no relation) kindly made.

Guy won both the W and W Harley class and the Chopper class on the Sportster chop built by Krazy Horse, Bury St Edmunds.

Some details of our Dirt Quake events (racing, medical cover, marshalling) are meticulously planned. Other parts (prize-giving) aren’t and we neglected to tell Guy where and when it was happening. Because he was loading his van, he missed it, but came out later to talk to the spectators. It was our mix-up, not Guy trying to avoid a crowd. 

Guy Martin’s Proper brand also arranged for their friends from the Ken Fox Wall of Death to appear and put on free shows to packed houses on Friday night and throughout Saturday.

Krazy Horse Go Big

My favourite motorcycle shop in the UK is expanding. For nearly 20 years, Krazy Horse was a great little back street chopper shop in the sleepy town of Bury St Edmunds. They built award-winning bikes and sold parts. Then, in the depths of a global economic downturn, the owner decided it was time to throw £100,000s at a new building, still in the same Suffolk town.

The result is a proper 'destination'. There is a large showroom of a massive variety of custom bikes for sale and on display, plus a high class cafe, parts area, MoT area, Dyno room and clothing shop selling Levi's, Dickies, Deus Ex Machina, Roland Sands, Belstaff, Pike Brothers...

The audacity of investing so heavily when others where cutting back has proved to be a good one. Krazy Horse are now dealers for Norton, Indian, Victory, Zaeta, Paton, Hardknock (learner-freindly chopper-style bikes) and Morgan cars. They've run out of room, so, from this Saturday on - 28 February - they will have two premises, a short walk from each other.

As part of the opening they are having an exhibit of the work of UK photographer, Merry Michau. Go check it out. G

This Saturday 13th, Krazy Horse are have a demo day 10am-4pm, for the large kahuna'd EBR Buell.

Krazy Horse Sideburn Night

The first Thursday of the every month, Krazy Horse in Suffolk, possibly the best, definitely the most interesting, bike shop in Britain holds an open evening with a theme and the next one is Sideburn night.

There'll be a band; special deals on Sideburn merch; DTRA race bike display; good food and drink (on sale in the in-house cafe); Krazy Horse's own killer custom bikes; Zaetas; Nortons; Morgans... Oh, and it's free.

3 July. 6-10pm.

Krazy Horse Tomorrow Evening

Final plans are being made for our TT Night on the 5th June 2014 and it looks like a good one! Lots of TT Special features planned including the Launch of Krazy Horse as a Paton Dealer. The bar will be flowing and the our band for this month are “Automatic Slim”! This is a great band who are reforming for our night!

Krazy Horse Thursday Nights

First Thursday of the month, first one this week, Krazy Horse, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.

Flight meets Bike at Krazy Horse

From Saturday 8 Feb (tomorrow), Krazy Horse in Bury St Edmunds is running a exhibition of flight-based artwork by David Bent and motorcycle airbrush amazeballsness by Ty Lawer.

The shop was already worth seeing with up to 20 award-winning customs (of all genres from Shinya Kimura builds to Storz street trackers and everything in between), a couple of Morgans; wide selection of clobber and helmets, and a great on-site cafe.

I hadn't heard of David Bent before, but he has a massive variety of styles at the pop-art end of things. Check out the David Bent website and get along to the exhibition if you can.
It runs for six weeks.

I am sure I don't have to remind you but next Thursday night is our Weirdo Beardo Night! We have "Them Harvey Boys" playing and a whole host of prizes for various competition revolving around beards! We are also helping a friend with a bit of fund raising by having beard painting and if you don't have a beard we can paint one on for you! All for a small donation. There will also be a raffle with some great prizes. The BBQ will be set up outside and the Rockers Cafe will have a special one off menu for that night only! And as always our Bar will be back open! Zaeta at the Festival of Speed

Manufacturers of the world's creamiest production street tracker Zaeta are at Goodwood this weekend with their new UK distributor, Krazy Horse.

Meanwhile, going off in Chelsea is a group art show including Sideburn regulars Chris Watson and Sam Christmas. G

Krazy Horse Summer Nights

Krazy Horse have a bunch of Summer Thursday night events lined up at their wonderful Bury St Edmunds HQ. The first is next 6 June, then on the first Thursday of the month.

They are also having a barbecue the Sunday directly after Dirt Quake II, so if you can pass them on the way home it's a place well worth calling in at. It's a one-hour, nice ride or drive partly through Thetford Forest. You want to head to the postcode IP32 6NU. Krazy Horse is near a Volvo garage.

Krazy Horse are one of the sponsors of Dirt Quake II and, like last year, are supplying a £20,000 Zero Type 5 (as designed by Shinya Kimura) for Dimitri Coste to race. G

SIDEBURN #13 Krazy Horse Party Snaps

The Arctic Tundra followed us to Bury St Edmunds for the launch party. Ryan Quickfall and his girlfriend skied all the way from Newcastle (downhill all the way so it was pretty easy). Dave Skooterfarm took 2 hours just to dig his van out of his snow drift front garden before setting off from Wigan. There was even a bobsleigh team from London captained by Sarah Bradley. But even madder than mad Jim McMad was the only two motorcyclists who braved the sub zero elements to win our two trophies 'Best Street Tracker' and 'Furthest Traveled by Motorcycle'.Thanks to the Stags for playing and everybody else who turned up.Then there was the after-party.
