Deus Milano Bike Build-Off 1

Sorry for the delay in following up last week's Deus Milan Bike Build-Off post. We're flat-out here. Anyway, here are some of the bikes. Above, trackerised air-cooled Duke. Rough and ready for action. White fork legs though? No, grazie.

CZ lowrider with fantastic paint. Killswitch was a guitar style jack plug.

Another Ducati tracker, this one on 17in wets. Inspiration seems to be equal parts Lego, Lloyd Brothers and Petardo.

Loved this little Yam. It was really in the spirit of the competition: doing the most with the least. Tractor front tyre on the rear isn't going to win him a GP, but I bet it could do burn-outs till the tank ran dry. Owner had fabbed up a little underslung monoschock. Seat subframe was a single, central tube, with the tail light mounted in it. Loved the fishtail pipe mounted parallel to the road.
It ended up winning the competition.

Federico from 2 Right Hands paint/ Dildo Society (don't ask) in Parma. Such a neat bike. Airbrushed painted, no stickers. If you're looking for a painter in Italy, look no further. 

2 Right Hands also painted this late model Yam XS. Neat Bandit behind it. Didn't get a better photo of the Suzuki though. Dumbo.

This beast turned up. The Africa Twin Dakar rep wasn't what the organisers were looking for in terms of a Deus Build-Off bike, but it was still an eye-catcher.

More to follow when I get another half-an-hour. Don't hold your breath. G

Jason's Borile

After selling the neatest framer in the whole of Europe, Jason bought a Borile (pronounced, I think, Bo-real-ay). I have no idea why he did such a thing.
Anyway, he's trying to salvage the situation. Looks pretty. G

I've been wondering what material would be best for a seat base. I tried titanium. Too bendy and difficult to stick leather to. Next up was fibreglass. What a bleedin messy job that was. And the end result looks like a normal seat. But I wanted something different and yesterday morning came up with a plan. 

A totally unique, never done before idea…. It fits really well and works too. Most pleased with my unique idea. Until I google, skateboard motorcycle seat, and loads come up. pah. Not so unique after all. 

I shall of course get it covered in squishy foam and leather for my peachy posterior, I'm not a sadist.

Dominator by CFM

Latest customer build by our friends at CFM is this Dominator. It came to CFM with the sub-frame already set at that angle. The neat wheels had already been laced too. G

Our mate and fellow racer Guy is selling his Honda NX650 Street Tracker/Street Scrambler on UK eBay. It's up for £2950 as a classified advert, not an auction, so no messing about. The bike is located in Oxfordshire.

It won the Street Tracker class at Dirt Quake II.

Exclusive Spy Shots!

'MCN's covert scoop photographer, posing as a cleaning lady, gained access to Co-Built's offices and snapped this from the hip while bent over a urinal. Supposedly the new Sideburn project bike in collaboration with artist Stevie Gee. The usual suspects seem to have been involved in its assembly. Due to the heavy disguise of all the bodywork, all we can really say for sure is that is has knobblies. It's too low for a crosser so it's most likely a street scrambler. We believe the sissy bar is just a ruse and wont feature on the final production bike.'

Scrambled Egg

Street Trackers and Scramblers seem to be currently eclipsing Cafe Racers on coolometers. The 950cc 50º V-twin Star Bolt came out (Yes you can use both interpretations of the phrase) earlier this year. Based on the gauche XVS950A Midnight, why did Yamaha deem it necessary to come up with an all new brand name?
Thankfully people are already chopping Bolts up. This street scrambler below is by Greg Hageman from Docs Chops. BP

I wonder if mighty Harley-Davidson could ever bring themselves to produce another badge engineered tiddler like this Aermacchi Rapido in this day and age? BP

Left Hand Cycles: Let the squirrels and deer disappear

The Honda CB 750 is a motorcycle built in 1982 and we were right minded, how it should look. 
We tried to create something, original and rough, based on enduro motorcycles,but with a four cylinder engine. Certain details give the bike a unique character. 
For example a double-mounted sprocket based on our love for riding fixie bikes. The seat has a characteristic appearence of a leather chesterfield sofa. 
We chose for minimal: less is less! 
The Heidenau K60 tires give this bike an extra dimension. Turn the throttle,hear the sound of the open exhaust and let the squirrels and deer disappear!

Maximilian Funk

I saw these bikes on Instagram (search @sideburnmag if you want to follow us) and got in touch with Maximilian Funk (really)  in Berlin. This is what he said...

Here are some infos on my bikes as requested. The grey one is a 87 Honda XBR500 (cleaned the frame, CB200 fuel tank, 70s hercules 125 headlamp, custom seat, exhaust manifold is from a xr 400 dirtbike, the muffler is a shortened Kawa Z1000 part and so on. 
The blue one is a Yamaha TW125. 
The goal was to build a little custom bike for the city with a budget of 2000 Euro maximum. I've put a XS400 fuel tank on, headlamp is an original part from the 70s, Supertrapp muffler, rear fender is built out of an old skateboard, custom seat. 
These bikes are my first builds as I wrote on Instagram. Do you need some more technical informations? I've put you a little selection of pics together.
