Sideburn in TriCo

That's right, Sideburn is now stocked on Hollywood Blvd at the new TriCo store (co-owned by Dice, Dixie and the Great Frog). Thanks fellas.

Death Spray in LA

The mighty creative David Death Spray is doing a multi-artist show in LA later this month. He's good. This show sounds a strange concept. DSC described it thusly... 'What's going to happen is the gallery has a load of found objects that we pick up and paint, so will do the pieces when i get to LA.' G

Homer Knapp Feature

Two-and-a-bit years to put a name to a face in a snap-shot from an unknown photographer and to arrange a photo-story. It was worth the effort. Our sharp shooter Troy Critchlow flew down to LA from Seattle to meet up with Andrew Gray who wrote the story on the legendary Homer Knapp and his legendary JD Harley. SB#7 is at the printers! BP

Choke, Saturday

Howdy from LA. Good time this afternoon at Choke - took the trumpet and shook it up. Choke is really a cool spot to hang- espresso, peeps, the warm fall LA sunshine, cool breeze and laughter. Jeff is a real stand up fellow, and serves a gentile espresso. I met Nick and the rest of the gang-really cool!
Jeff and I spoke a bit about racing 'peds'-

Jason-I like the potential for speed on these scooters.
Jeff Johnson-yeah actually there are a couple of us that tune these scooters for racing.
JM-what? where?
JJ-well it's crazy but the guys race in Atwater couple times a year at the Polini Cup.
JM-Atwater-Northern cali?
JJ- yep north of Fresno.
JM-cool.
JJ- yeah-its crazy what these guys get out of these bikes.

Later I spoke with Nick and another rider about the engine-

Nick-(to customer/friend) it sounds great let me take it up the street.
friend- yeah its got this sort of 'tone' to it.
JM- (as Nick returns on bike) that is a unique sound the expansion chamber has..
Nick-this bike has an interesting chamber on it which resonates at a particular temp
and speed duration, just like any bike and it results in its own sin wave which is
that sound.
JM-my Benelli screams-it has the silentium cigar chamber on it so its low sounding-
Nick-its interesting that the different chamber give you a different performance but
that the sound can be a good way to judge if its the one for the bike.
we use parts in so many different ways its cool to see what works.

After two espressos it was time to head home-Jeff asked if the Sideburn guys would
come out again. We'll see.

This weekend...

Two events I'd really like to be at this weekend, both either organised or featuring good friends of SIdeburn.
First an exhibition at the legendary Choke in the greater Los Angeles area (somewhere).

And Motorcycho Norm's band, The Vicious Cycles are playing in Vancouver, Canaduh, somewhere. I, on the other hand, will be tiling the bathroom. Rock. And. Roll. GI

We're looking for shop stockists for SB magazine. If your local bike shop serves excellent coffee and has a pretty mechanic, but lacks quality reading matter, give us a shout! We are currently sorting out a new and improved US distributor, to reduce the shipping costs & waiting time to our American customers, but we are always looking for new openings. You don't have to be a bike shop, maybe a tattoo shop, skate shop, record shop? We're open to suggestions.
