DTRA x Deus Ex Machina T-shirts

Deus Ex Machina have made a limited edition run of T-shirts with the posters we commissioned and sponsored for the 2013 DTRA season.

I'm pretty sure all the posters are being made into shirts, but there only seem to be three available at the moment. The artists we commissioned are:

2013 Sideburn DTRA Posters for Sale

As part of our sponsorship of the UK flat track scene Sideburn commissioned six artists around the world to produce posters for the 2013 season's races.
To help raise funds to keep the club running, the artists have kindly allowed the DTRA to print the posters and sell them as limited edition sets. Any profits go to the club so the UK can continue to have a flat track race scene.
The DTRA says...

There is a limited edition of 20 sets of six posters.
They are £30 plus £5 for UK shipping and £9 rest of the world. Printed on High Quality 180gram paper and shipped in a proper carboard poster tube with a free DTRA Sticker.

DTRA Round 7, King's Lynn

This extra round was added to the 2013 DTRA Schedule to replace the rained-off Tir Prince round, so we had to commission seven rather than six, but it was no chore to ask the mighty Death Spray Custom.
The race is at Norfolk Arena, King's Lynn. September 29.

Where do you live: London

What do you own? Suzuki GSXR1100 H

What's your dream bike? 
People who know me know I like to espouse the BASARA MC one man, one bike philosophy, so I'd like an air cooled Vyrus 984, or a tax and tested Britten, or the HIDE Knick Knack XLCH or a Jeff Wright x DSC Norton Commando, can you hear me Jeff?

Who is your favourite racer?
It would be a frankenstein of Stéphane Peterhansel, Jean Michel Bayle and Jamie Whitham.

If you were to start racing flat track, what bike would you choose?
If I could create my own dirt track bike I think it would be based around an ex-works factory Norton RCW588 rotary engine.

What was the inspiration for your DTRA poster?
I went for a sort of vintage carnival optical illusion eye fuck so as it's something completely different from the other (superb) posters you've had before.

Finish this sentence: Loud Pipes... 
are one of the key reasons motorcycles come under social and political pressure for control and restrictions. Motorcycling is dying in the UK. If we, as motorcyclists, want it to survive we should take a bit more responsibility for ourselves. White pipes, however, fucking rule!

DTRA Round 6, Rye House, September 15

The latest in the series of 2013 Dirt Track Riders Association posters is by Spanish artist Brusco.
Sideburn is supporting the DTRA by using some of our favourite artists to create posters to promote the series.
We first met him when we went to Barcelona for the Sideburn Kiddo Party last year and like the variety of styles he uses.
Brusco has illustrated the poster for the penultimate round at Rye House, Hertfordshire on September

Spectators get in for free. Racing from 11.30.
If you want to race, in any of the classes, including mini bike, get in touch with the DTRA with all your questions.
If you want to be a flag marshal, that would be great too. You have to get there for 10.30-11am.

We did a short interview with the artist, Brusco.

Where do you live? 
Barcelona

What bike do you own? 
I used to ride a FXSTS Harley Springer, but now I'm selling it. These days I'm finishing my small Yamaha SR250, with a BratStyle look like. I can't wait to ride it!!

What's your dream bike?
May be an W650/800 or an SR500. I love the Japanese custom style.

Who is your favourite racer? 
When I was young I used to follow Mick Doohan, I really loved his races! but now I'm looking closer Marc Marquez, I think that he will bring us amazing moments.

If you were to start racing flat track, what bike would you choose?
I'm sure that I'd love an old school one. Maybe an OSSA, Bultaco or BSA.

What was the inspiration for your DTRA poster? 
What most impresses me about the photos of flat track races, is to see riders tilted to the maximum. I have tried to capture this moment and give it movement.

DTRA Round 5, Buxton

It's time for the next instalment in the Sideburn-commissioned posters for the UK Dirt Track Riders Association 2013 season.
The race is at High Edge Raceway, just outside Buxton. It's a beautiful ride out there and the track is in a pretty unique setting.
If you want to get involved you can race on a day licence for less than £60 for a day's racing in the novice or minibike/pit bike class.
Bike's need a front sprocket cover, no front brake (or at least no front brake lever, you can leave the disc and caliper on), mag wheels need big gaps covering up. To ride on an X plate, as a one-off 'guest' rider, you can race on any tyres, though some are more sensible than others.

If you want to be close to the action, but not race, the series always looking for marshals to help out on the day.

What bike do you own? 
I currently dawdle around on my 70s Yamaha RS 125 but I'm in the process of an exciting build project with SIDEBURN which is you, I'm hoping to reveal it to the world in November with an epic motorbike, magazine and art fest. I'll be there signing bums and boobs.

What's your dream bike?
The one we are building right now I hope! I've always liked the Steve McQueen 70s Husqvarna 400, looks like so much fun.

Who is your favourite racer/motorcycle hero? 
I always thought my Dad was pretty cool when he picked me up from school on his motorbike. I think Dimitri Coste has great style, he's crazy fast. Not sure if he's my hero but I do have his face tattooed on my thigh.

If you were going to start racing flat track, what bike would you choose?
A really fast one I guess. I'd get Co-Built to build me one as theirs look and sound amazing. Also… when I stabbed my hand at Rollerburn, Anthony saved my tendons from being forever severed! Thanks man.

What was the inspiration for your DTRA poster?
I was inspired by my favourite bit of SIDEBURN, TROPHY QUEEN at the back. I love how all these legends have great stories of how they never got paid or how they hooked up (or didn't) with the girl in the photo. I wanted to capture that kind of thought… and avoid a poster of someone racing a bike. That's rad too but I wanted to go for something different, more about the person. Whatever. Nevermind.

I'll probably finish last.

DTRA Round 4, Tir Prince, Wales

This race is on a super-fast, two-thirds of a mile horse racing oval near Rhyl in North Wales. This is proper On Any Sunday action.
It's a Friday night race with racing starting at about 7pm. The DTRA needs marshals for this race. You'd need to be there for 5-ish to get a briefing and cover the practice.
Times and gate prices will be confirmed on the blog.

Where do you live? 
Brisbane, Australia.

What bike do you own? 
A 1955 Triumph Thunderbird.

What's your dream bike? 
I wouldn't mind owning a DAH Harley race bike.

Who is your motorcycle hero? 
Burt Munro, though watching Malcolm Smith in the Elsinore Grand Prix in On Any Sunday gives me goosebumps.

If you were to start racing flat track what bike would you choose to compete on?
I love the KR flattrack bikes

What was the inspiration for your DTRA poster?
Early 60s graphic design, specifically rock posters from around era.

DTRA Round 2, Rye House

As part of Sideburn's on-going sponsorship of the 2013 Dirt Track Riders Association race series we commissioned the poster for round 2. This whacked-out image was created by Essy May.

This Rye House race takes place during the day of Sunday 19 May, the same weekend as The Bike Shed Event  in London (that Sideburn is also involved in), and is only a short ride (on bike or train) from the East End, so make a weekend of it. Entry to this race is just £5 and the action is always extra wild at Rye House. 

The first race of the series happens THIS SUNDAY at the Norfolk Arena, King's Lynn. The DTRA are short of a couple of marshals if you want to get involved. You don't need experience. You'll be instructed on the day. Contact the super-friendly organisers directly through the DTRA website. 

Entry for spectators is £5, under-16s are free.

There's a 70s Yamaha RS125 rusting in the alleyway that's partly mine.

What's your dream bike? 
One that can travel through time and ride the rings of Saturn.

Evel Knievel of course.

If you were going to start racing flat track, what bike would you choose? 
A gold-plated Bultaco Astro probably.

What was the inspiration for your DTRA poster? 
Science Fantasy has no limits.

DTRA Round 1, King's Lynn

To help the DTRA (Dirt Track Riders Association), the newly formed organisers of the UK dirt track race series, Sideburn said it would commission a different artist to produce a poster for each of the 2013 UK rounds.
The hope is the posters will catch people's eyes that aren't tuned into the flat track world and they'll come along. Simple.

So, please share the poster on your blogs, facebook, whatever, and come along to a race. If you want a higher-res one to print in a magazine, please email us.

We're always looking for flag marshals too, if you want to be in the heart of the action.

The first in the poster series was created by Ryan Quickfall, an artist we first used in Sideburn 12, then again for 13, and also to do the poster for this weekend's Krazy Horse launch.
We asked him a few questions as an introduction.

RYAN QUICKFALL

Where do you live?
Newcastle upon Tyne. UK

What bike do you own?
In between at the moment. Recently a 1999 Yamaha R6.

What's your dream bike?
An early Honda race bike, like an RC166 or something. But I also love 70/80s superbikes. Their heyday is yet to return!

Who is your favourite racer/motorcycle hero?
I really loved Loris Capirossi, often off pace in the later days but a great character.

If you were going to start racing flat track, what bike would you choose? 
If money wasn't an issue something based around an XR750. Realistically I'd get something 4-stroke single. Probably a motocross bike kitted for flattrack. It might happen soon!

What was the inspiration for your DTRA poster? 
It was a chance to illustrate with a slack brief. Which is always welcome. I guess it is just my natural style, lo-fi poster art. Poster art and vintage imagery is my biggest influence in my work. Undead motorcycle riding dudes, who doesn't like that.

Finish this sentence. Riding a motorcycle at 130mph is... 
Liberating, however not the only way to have fun on a motorcycle contrary to popular belief. But it is great to remind yourself what your bike can do when you let it.
