There isn't a dirt track racer we don't like, but there are some we love - Sammy's one of them. More news when I get back from racing at Scunthorpe.

Sideburn and Racefit on Bike Exif

To help some of the friends who help me in my day job and with Sideburn and, also, to try gain a bit of coverage for Sideburn, I worked with photographer Paul Bryant to put a couple of bikes up on Bike Exif.
Some of the people who comment on Bike Exif, just some of them, I view as the lowlife of the motorcycle online world. They look at someone's hard work for ten seconds and then spit some bile at it before going back to their motorcycle-less lives. I'm convinced these people don't build bikes. I don't think they even ride. And if they do, they don't ride anything modified. Anyway, that's only some of the people who comment. And you don't have to read the comments. In fact, I'd advise not to. You can never get those seconds of your life back. The Sideburn blog comments are different. They emanate from an open-minded, fun-loving, bike-building place. Still, Chris, who runs the Bike Exif site, seems a good egg and features very handsome bikes.
The motorcycles I sent to be featured are Sideburn's Project FT (built by CFM, painted by Death Spray Custom) and Racefit's Spondon Zed.

Cult

Nice image from Kiddo Motors. The Steve and Minx poster looks great framed. It's free with Sideburn 6 (picture frame not supplied).
Film director Alex Cox wrote the story to accompany that feature - it's an exclusive essay about the film Rollerball. Cox's Repo Man is having a special screening in London on Feb 29. Dress code is 1980s punk. Sounds interesting. Go to Midnight Movies for more info. G

Just perusing SB#6 - as you do - and feeling sad that we don't appear to have anywhere in this country to run a Rollerball tournament!

I wonder where they got that idea...

Icon's next ad shoot involves rollergirls and (electric) motorbikes to try their version of Rollerball. If you want to see what Sideburn did with Rollerball buy issue 6. We also had legendary director Alex Cox write an essay about the film for the same issue. G

Patrick's AJS built with help from FRED

This is Patrick's wonderful AJS we feature in Sideburn 6. Dimitri Coste sent us the photos and I wrote a few words to go with it. But I made a mistake. The guy whose expertise built the bike is called FRED, I mistakenly referred to him as Frank. This upset Patrick greatly. He pointed out in the strongest terms that I am a useless retard. All I can do is agree. Mick in Rome checks the magazine before print but there was no way he'd know that I'd got Fred's name wrong.

I'm not cut out for this kind of work. Luckily McDonald's are hiring. If they give me a chance, as I hope they will, this could (and probably should) be the last you hear from me. If not I will just have to carry on making mistakes and upsetting people. If I do, I apologise wholeheartedly in advance.
And I'll take this opportunity to say sorry to Patrick and Fred once more. It really was an honest mistake made by someone who always tries to do too many things at once. Fred, you did a great job. Patrick, you too. GI

Sideburn 6 release party, London

Calling all London racers, riders, rockers, rollergirls, mods, street trackers, gawkers and lollygaggers. Sideburn are officially launching Sideburn 6 at Lewis Leathers, W1 next Wednesday, August 25, from 6-9. Magazines will be £5, but the the Vedett beer is free till you polish it all off, then there's a good pub around the corner.

Repo Man

Great film, great soundtrack. Repo Man was written and directed by Alex Cox in 1984. It was Mick's idea to approach Alex to write a feature for Sideburn 6 about Rollerball. Firstly, I didn't think we'd be able to get in touch with him, but we did. Secondly, I didn't think he'd do it but he did.

AJS

Dimitri has shot Patrick's AJS for SB#6. It popped it's cork blasting along La Seine, the spewed oil causing a little smoke screen on the slash-cut pipe. Quelle bête. BP
