Flight meets Bike at Krazy Horse

From Saturday 8 Feb (tomorrow), Krazy Horse in Bury St Edmunds is running a exhibition of flight-based artwork by David Bent and motorcycle airbrush amazeballsness by Ty Lawer.

The shop was already worth seeing with up to 20 award-winning customs (of all genres from Shinya Kimura builds to Storz street trackers and everything in between), a couple of Morgans; wide selection of clobber and helmets, and a great on-site cafe.

I hadn't heard of David Bent before, but he has a massive variety of styles at the pop-art end of things. Check out the David Bent website and get along to the exhibition if you can.
It runs for six weeks.

Kristina Fender is a classic racing monkey. Not some cruel wired-up Indian street performer, it means she's a die-hard sidecar passenger who clambers all over the vehicle with her arse scraping the tarmac so as to maintain equilibrium as the rider pushes something with the natural stability of a shopping cart with one duff wheel. She has no fear. At Wheels & Waves she was shooting sitting backwards on a motorbike so she could remain in the thick of the action (while the film cars had to make-do with a few seconds at the front before being engulfed with overtaking bikes, then having to just sweep-up at the back).

Stories of Bike: The Jerkyls

A nicely edited film from Australia that does a good job of explaining my own attraction to racing flat track - racing a gang of mates for fun, sometimes at the back of the pack.
If I just had to sit in my van focussing on the next race or thinking about my gearing I wouldn't look forward to the racing half as much as I do when I know I'm going to have a laugh with a bunch of mates I met through racing but who now meet up when we're not at the the track. It's probably because a lot of these fellas are roughly the same age as me and got into racing when their youth was long gone.

By the way, this is what Aussies called dirt track, on knobblies, not traditional DT tryres. G

Operation Tonnerre

Olivier of Les Petroleurs seems a fascinating guy. I saw him at the Ace Cafe, but wasn't sure it was him, then later realised it was. Anyway, enough of that fascinating anecdote, he's been in touch lately. This is a little film about him latest project - a Harley WR. Tonnerre is French for thunder, I think. I wonder if he'll race it in the DTRA. G

Champions Training School & Noyes Camp Team Up For 3 Days of Rear Wheel Steering Action at Motorland Park, Aragon, Spain. 
7-9 MARCH, 2014 

Flat track is recognised by many up and coming MotoGP stars and World Champions as a valuable part of their training schedule and now we would like to offer you the chance to experience the skills of controlling a bike whilst using your riding position and throttle control, sliding on the fantastic dirt and tarmac tracks on offer at Motorland . 

Day 1 - Oval Flat track training, Short track and ¼ mile track. 
Day 2 - TT Flat track training (left, right handers and jumps) on two dirt only tracks. 
Day 3 - Supermoto training on tarmac and dirt, with three tracks to choose from. 

Training will be included all three days, with instruction from Kenny (#9 pictured battling Marquez above) and Pete.
The cost for three days training is £275 (with your own bike). 
Bike Hire KLX 140s is £60 half a day, £90 full day and £200 for 3 full days.

21 Helmets

A simple idea done well. 21 helmets customised by 21 artists. This year's roster includes a bunch of Sideburn collaborators and friends including Stevie Gee, Maxwell Paternoster (Corpses from Hell), Conrad Leach, Denton Watts, Grant Ray and Deus Ex Machina (the whole of it?).
This year's 21 Helmets show debuts at next weekend's One Motorcycle Show in Portland. G

John Roeder

Age is the best disguise for someone's past. It's hard to imagine the old guy sat on a park bench fearlessly fighting in a war or drunkenly brawling outside a football ground. It's difficult to picture the old lady, the one with the thinning hair and papery skin, as a 20-year-old raver looking for illicit thrills round the back of the butcher's.

Now, John Roeder isn't that old, and the two-piece leathers he turned up to a DTRA race in a few years ago did give us a clue he had some race history, but we didn't know just how much till we spent a winter's morning in his dining room going through old scrapbooks.
