Dirt Quake USA was another success, lots of happy people, some very fast (and not so fast racing), good bands, great weather.

We have lots of photos coming up soon, but this one, by @seaunicorn, captures the spirit. Click the #dqusa link to see lots more photos and some great videos people have posted on instagram.

Thanks to everyone who came from far and wide for this event. Big thanks to See See Motorcycles and Harley-Davidson for partnering up with us.

Next up is Dirt Quake V at Kings Lynn in the UK on 15-16 July. Buy a £15 ticket in advance for Saturday and be in with a chance to win a brand new custom Mutt Motorcycles street tracker. G

FEVHOTS Japan

Japanese flat track went very quiet after the Fields Days guys stopped promoting events, but FEVHOTS - Far East Vintage Hot Shoe Series - are now promoting grassroots racing. Here are some photos from their most recent event.

Harbsa?

If a BSA A10 with a Harley 45 engine in it is just what you're looking for, you're in luck, there's on on sale on UK eBay, by it now for £7495. Nothing to do with us and not entirely sure why you'd do this, but that's not to say there isn't someone out there just waiting for it.

The Damned - New Rose

Just been listening to a BBC Radio 6 documentary on the significance of The Damned's New Rose, credited as the first 'punk' single.

I don't think punk started in 1976, but let's not get into that here, if others want to believe that, then fine. Anyway, this documentary interviewed the four members, describing the music scene, the recording of the single, the influences, the way the drummer, Rat Scabies spurred on the brilliant guitarist, Brian James, to play even harder, even faster. It interviewed fans including Gaye Black of The Adverts, who explained The Damned looked like they were from four different bands, while other bands, like The Clash, looked like they had a meeting before going on stage, to decide the night's outfit.

I had downloaded the podcast, and now I think it's unavailable, but you sleuths might be able to track it down. If not, listen to this perfect 2.5 mins of pop music, devised by Brian James, who was working as a cleaner at the time he wrote it. It's 40 years old and takes some beating. Just like Rat's drums. G

Indian Back With a BANG

We ran a big feature on Roland Sand's modified Indian Superhooligans in Sideburn 24, Travis raced one and I interviewed the President of Indian, Steve Menneto,  about his company's entry into AMA Pro Racing. Well, it's just been announced that reigning champion Jared Mees will be their development rider.

In a press release sent today Menneto said "We are very excited to return to the AMA Circuit. We have established the new Indian Chief and Scout series as the cornerstones of our production line-up, and now is the time for us to return to racing in a big way. We know that fans of Indian Motorcycle have been anticipating this announcement and can't wait to see Indian Racing back in action."

Mees is quoted, "I can't express how excited I am to be the guy to bring Indian Motorcycle back into the forefront of AMA Pro competition. We will have a lot of work to do to develop a 100 percent new race platform, but I'm committed and excited at what I have seen on the drawing boards and what the plans are for Indian Motorcycle Racing. This is history for the brand, and being a part of it is truly exciting for me and this sport."

Indian Motorcycles will race the new motorcycle at a circuit to be determined in 2016 in preparation for a full season of competition in 2017. This is on the back of news of the development of the new liquid-cooled Harley-Davidson XG750R. This are getting very exciting. G

Texas Chris Jenner

Back in May we organised a Yorkshire Ride Out with HebTroCo. Among a bunch of great bikes was a very neat very neat, street trackered XS650 built by and belonging to 'Texas' Chris Jenner and American living in the UK. Nothing particularly unusual, there were a few good looking street trackers among the mix. What was interesting was I knew Chris was heading to dirt track practice at Greenfield the next day on the very same bike.

Chris is a graduate of the University of Dirt Quake, yet another rider who has undertaken their first motorcycle race at Dirt Quake, only to be seduced by the action and atmosphere and then bought or built a bike to race more seriously.

Chris took off the front brake and light overnight in preparation for the practice. These aircooled Yamaha twins are solid machines, but it didn't stop Chris, a BMX rider, launching it off the Greenfield TT jump and even crossing it up in mid-air, looking like a 21st Century Kenny Roberts. Great photo by James Boddy.

The DTRA Greenfield TT is on this weekend. Spectator entry is free, but car parking is £5. There is a bar on site, camping, and two days of racing.
Aim for Greenfield Farm, Alford, Lincolnshire, LN13 0EB.

A report of the Yorkshire Ride-out will be in Sideburn 25, coming very soon. G

Sideburn #1 on eBay

You don't see these all that often these days, so if you're after one it might be worth a punt. We don't know the seller and have no idea about the condition of the mag, so the decision is yours, but get a move on as there are only 28 hours to go at time of posting. MP
