Boyle Custom Moto

Kim, of Boyle Custom Moto, Carlsbad, California, builds my kind of bikes. The first proper custom build he did was an SR500. It was great. He subsequently built sportsters and big twins and a Norton cafe racer. All of them are wonderful.
He also make great Harley air cleaners for his brand Benchmark.
Oh, and he rides modern and vintage MX with a Sideburn sticker on his lid.

Maximilian Funk

I saw these bikes on Instagram (search @sideburnmag if you want to follow us) and got in touch with Maximilian Funk (really)  in Berlin. This is what he said...

Here are some infos on my bikes as requested. The grey one is a 87 Honda XBR500 (cleaned the frame, CB200 fuel tank, 70s hercules 125 headlamp, custom seat, exhaust manifold is from a xr 400 dirtbike, the muffler is a shortened Kawa Z1000 part and so on. 
The blue one is a Yamaha TW125. 
The goal was to build a little custom bike for the city with a budget of 2000 Euro maximum. I've put a XS400 fuel tank on, headlamp is an original part from the 70s, Supertrapp muffler, rear fender is built out of an old skateboard, custom seat. 
These bikes are my first builds as I wrote on Instagram. Do you need some more technical informations? I've put you a little selection of pics together.

While tidying up the stores for the imminent arrival of Sideburn 13 I discovered we're very low of some popular items.

We have only one MEDIUM of the Limp pocket shirt. We have a handful of S, L and XL.
UPDATE: The medium Limp sold within minutes.

We have one XL Into the Wild long-sleeve shirts. S is sold out. We have a few M and L in stock. 

We're down to the very last ever Dick hooded sweat in S. It's a grey. We have a few Medium in red and grey and a some Large in red only. XL is sold out.

Take a heavyweight Buell Sirloin. Chop off the boney and fatty bits. Hammer it with a wooden steak mallet until tender. Eat raw.

Bad News from Italy

This turned up on Instagram today, a follower in Italy pleased with their new T-shirt purchase contacted us from the Roma Moto Days Show.
Even on the screen of a phone it looked familiar. Yes, it's the Adi Gilbert illustration for the Sideburn Dave Aldana night from 2011.

THIS T-SHIRT WAS PRINTED AND SOLD IN ITALY. CAN ANYONE TELL US WHO MADE IT OR GIVE US A FACEBOOK OR WEBSITE LINK TO THEM, PLEASE?

Before you think, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, here's the truth.

We ALWAYS pay the artist for the artwork, not just promise to raise their profile.

In the case of Dave Aldana we also paid towards bringing the legendary racer to the UK in an effort to raise the profile of the UK flat track scene.

When companies rip Sideburn off, they're ripping of two guys who make a magazine in their spare time, because this niche title doesn't pay enough to support us full-time (and never will). So we work on it when the kids go to bed.

This is the third time it's happened in four months.

People are stealing our designs and artists' work and it's pissing us right off. Please help us find these rip-off merchants. G

Good news from Ukiah, California

This news from regular Sideburn contributor Randy K.

This group popped up out of nowhere. They (local car track promoter and local rider) hatched an idea to run a couple of practice sessions and they/we were amazed that 70 heretofore unknown flat track riders showed. Word has it that local MC shops have experienced a resurgance of parts business with new/old racers now building bikes. 

It was a small dirt kart track and with someone's whiff of an idea, it now seems to be a real deal. As it stands now, a seven race series. in a small town best known for nice wines and restaurants.

Johnny Lewis on a Triumph!

Johnny Lewis featured in Sideburn 9 when he was riding a Kawasaki in the GNC and got some great results on it. He missed most of last season, through a lack of sponsorship and taking up other opportunities, but as this short video shows, he's back in the twins championship.
Articulate, humorous and f-fast, Johnny's got it all. Now Triumph have two real talents on their twin. Thanks to Roger for the link.
