Greased-Up Eye Kandy

Just stocked up with the 208-page, hardback book Kustom Kamera and it reminded me to have another flick through. What a great book, each chapter is a different photographer. The mix is cars, bikes and pin-ups (some of it v. raunchy). There are plenty of names you'll recognise, on both sides of the camera, if you're a reader of bike blogs.

Three of the 12 photographers included have kindly worked with Sideburn: Adam Wright, Nick Clements and Laurent Bagnard. In addition, there is Viva Van Story, Dirk Behlau, Shannon Brooke, Richard Fahey, Richard Heeps, Chas Ray Krider, April May, David Perry and Roy Varga.

Ass Kickers

Gash. When the word is used in a derogatory manner towards a woman, it's probably one of the most vulgar. But if it's simply referring to a gruesome knee scar belonging to a Lady that is about kick your ass on a dusty oval, the steel shoe is right royally on the other foot. You better be afraid, and sorry that when you saw her hanging around in the pits you assumed she was 'just someone's girlfriend'.

Flat track racing is one of the only professional sports that doesn't segregate the sexes. Nichole Cheza and Shayna Texter, realise they are a pair of cats in amongst the dogs, but they ain't no pussies. Full feature SB#5. Photos Adam Wright and Tim White. BP

Indy Mile on VBS

VBS TV (part of the the Vice magazine stable) is a online TV station aimed at mid-20s skinny jean wearers. They've posted a couple of quite slickly produced programmes introducing their viewers to dirt track. It was all filmed at the Indy Mile with some additional 1970s footage. Well worth watching, even if the editing goes all weird at the end of the race when Kenny Roberts, Kenny Coolbeth and, I think, JD Beach of the Pro Singles class take the flag.

UPDATE: As you'll see if you read the comments, Adam Wright helped produce these films. We think he means films rather that put the money up. Adam is the man behind the Road Course and Hauler photo books. He shot Richard of Mule Motorcycles for Sideburn 3 and Nicole Cheza and Shayna Texter for Sideburn 5. It seems as good a time as any to say SB5 is coming along nicely, but we still have plenty to get finished. March? Hopefully.

The very nature of dirt-track makes it more dangerous when the machines are ridden at anything less than 100%, so to see Kenny ride three 'demo' laps at virtually full throttle was an incredible sight.
"I said at the time they don't pay me enough to ride that thing… they still don't!" Kenny smiled afterwards.
Somebody clearly hadn't paid Valentino Rossi enough either because was suited, booted, and ready to ride the TZ750 himself but after seeing Kenny in action he changed his mind.
"He's not as stupid as he looks!" joked Kenny.

Mule Motorcycles created this Ducati back in 2000 or so. I've got to say, I think it looks better with clip-ons rather than dirt track bars. Mule rule. We've have the story behind the world's best street tracker builder in Sideburn 3. Adam Wright drove down to San Diego to photograph Mule exclusively for us.

Moon Eyes Show Japan-built street trackers

Yes, every chopper blog has run shots from here. In fact, it seems every chopper blog flew to Moon Eyes, but the bikes that float my boat the most (because I like some chops unt bobbers also) tend to be ignored by a lot of those guys. These are my favourites. Taken from Japanese site Sparetime. Goddamn, I would like a WR rep. That top one is a nice twist on theme, too. There's a Kawasaki W650 in there too.

Hauler - Competition

This is a book a lot of traditional choppers guys go crazy for. No words, just B&W photos. Nice ones. That's Max Schaaf, from Sideburn 2, on the cover. Adam Wright, he who shoots and puts it all together, has just photographed a feature for Sideburn 3. Secret for now, but super exciting. And he sent us a very limited edition Hauler T-shirt. Thing is, it's too big for either Ben or me (well, Ben is huge but likes em tight). It's size L. So to win it we want to know:
