From occasional Sideburn contributor and good friend, Dan Walsh...
We have reached peak hipster.
Moustache, tattooed fingers gripping a heat-wrapped truncheon. Tattoos he got in a non-touristy town in India you've probably never heard of. Staring into the distance, he imagines fitting drum brakes and knobblies to the riot van. 'It would be, like, totally authentic.'
This photo was taken yesterday at the EDL*/anti-EDL demo in Walthamstow, which delighted him, because a friend of his has opened a pop-up in the Stow called Pot Noodles and Palaver, and he can totally get his lunch there after. 'And you won't believe this, but they serve it in an old tin can and shit.'
*EDL - English Defence League. Far right, anti-immigration, anti-Islam street protest group.

Cairo Riot Style

After our Roman Riot Style post, we had to follow up with this. Don't know how well the baguettes would stand up against a baton, but ten out of ten for improvisation. Viva freedom! GThanks to Johnny B for the photos.

Roman Riot style
Love the grey Caribineri hauler
Don't know what's going on here. I think she wants chin strap assistance.
He's about to fall down the police station stairs.
Momo.
Do you think these guys are really political activists, or just out for a bit of civil disobedience?
Bradbury? Fight Club?
Our Rome correspondent Mick P gleefully pointed us to some photos of today's anti-Berlusconi rioting in Rome. Ben, ever the sartorialist, immediately picked up on the Momo helmets some of the rioters were wearing. Expect the Milan catwalks to be inspired by this street style quick sharp.Below: They fought the law and... Discovered Mick Doohan still don't take no shit. G

Leo Williams - Riot photographer

I was out in Turin a couple of weeks ago working with a young photographer called Leo Williams. He was assisting Sam Barker, but had his portfolio on his phone. All his shots are great, but these blew me away, even on a phone screen. He shot these during the recent G8 riots in London, but some are like fashion shoot images (except the one below which I included to show there really was a riot going on). He shoots fashion too. He's only 21 and wears ridiculous trousers (those with the waistband lower than one's buttocks), but we'll let him off. I hope he'll shot for Sideburn in the future. GI
