UPDATE: Congratulations 'c***0' (who ever you are). 18 bids for a mint SB#1 ceiling at £80.98. I have to say I'm shocked and flattered. SB#2 went for £26. DiCE #1 went for £37.

Tidying up the Sideburn warehouse this morning I noticed the recent rush on issue 2 means we're down to our last few dozen.
Sideburn 1 is long gone and we get asked for them every other day despite making it clear it's sold out. Sideburn 2 is going the same way. As we're on reserve we won't sell any quantities to dealers or distributors. Sorry fellas.
The Dave T-shirts are nearly gone in M, L and XXL too. Please check for your size and colour before ordering.

KR back on the killer - NEW VIDEO

At last, some decent footage of Kenny on the TZ750 comeback. We were afraid that no one had got decent clips, but Yamaha have spliced together a half-decent short film for those of us who didn't make it in 1975 or 2009. See it over at our friends' site, Hell for Leather.

It all begs the question, if dirt track racing can create such strong memories, why aren't manufacturers throwing a few dollars at it now? It sounds like they're all dropping out of AMA Superbike racing. It wouldn't cost much to have a pro looking effort in the GNC. Triumph, Ducati, Aprilia, Suzuki... Independents are doing the hard work for you, why not give them the money you normally spend on the office plants and really help take the fight to the establishment?

And remember - we had the story on Kenny's 1975 race in his own words, and Ben Miller's interview with KR in Sideburn 2. We have some left, but they're going fast. Buy now and avoid being skinned when they inevitably come up on eBay after we've sold out. GI

KR back on the killer

A few very good friends of Sideburn are going to be at Indy this weekend. Boastie and Chris Carr are competing (come on fellas!); Tim White and Adam Wright are shooting for us and other people; Dave, Louise, Joe and Diane of Skooter Farm are all spectating.
They'll see KR ride the TZ Miler. Hopefully videos will be all over YouTube by Monday.

I hope Yamaha will let Valentino ride the TZ. That would be incredible. You know he'd like to. Also, Valentino is contributing words for Sideburn 4. No shit!

Paris Trackmaster

This just in from Bertrand Busillet in Paris. BB and SR Labo supplied the unforgettable shots of Roberts' TZ750 for SB2 and the Wood BMW for SB3. He had Justin at Glory /Rank and File motorcycle build this Trackmaster Triumph for him. We told you about it here. Now it's landed in France.

Yesterday I went to Le Havre to pick up my bike. I went there with a friend of mine, Dimitri Coste who's a great photographer. He bought to Justin a TR-6 that was built for Jason Lee.
Both bike are in Paris now : we have to get a license plate, and then go to a ride !
I tought you could enjoy some pics for your blog. Just don't forget to credit Dimitri for the pics.

Stealing Speed

Mat Oxley is the best bike sport writer working in English. He contributed a Kenny Roberts Story for Sideburn 2, and has just had a book published about the amazing story of Nazi flying bomb engineer, Walter Kaaden, who - through his knowledge of pulse jets - created the two-stroke expansion chamber (as seen on Rainey's bike below). Ernst Degner was Kaaden's rider. Until he defected to Suzuki and changed the course of motorcycle history. I've read some of the book and it's fantastic. Buy it here.

California is like a bowl of breakfast cereal

It's full of nuts and flakes. A guy called Craig told me that. He was Californian. His car was the star of that crap film The Fast and the Furious. This bike is Japanese. It's by Flakes. It has a nice rear frame loop. It's in Sideburn 2.

No place like dome

Back last century when men were men and photographers shot on film, Dan Mahony and his Nikon, clocked up tens of thousands of cross-country miles photographing flat trackers. Photos that today we consider classics - hence they appear in SIDEBURN.
One down side of the interweb, is the very rapid loss of authorship (as for usage rights and payment, you must be joking). And now that the ether is awash with blogs, some are even adding their own watermarks on photographs of unknown origin (SB does this too), so that at least they can be traced back at least part way to their source.

This photo of the very young Kenny Roberts is a prime case. Mat Oxley interviewed KR at his ranch for SB#2, & re-photographed KR's own original print - but we didn't realize it was one of Mahony's. - Sorry Dan! All props due.

The shout of annoyed mothers all over the land, but also an order from the men of the Wainfleet Megabowl. If you've seen Sideburn issue 2 you'll know what fun you can have in a warehouse with a bunch of Chinese motocrossers. Well, Lincolnshire indoor season starts tonight. £20 a head, bring your own bike. 90 mins of racing from 20.30 in Lincoln city centre.

You can race XR50s, Monkey bikes, 125s, anything, 'But you can't get a 450 round,' says Boastie. 'We've tried.'

We went to the suburbs of Copenhagen in search of the infamous Wrench Monkees. Hoping to gain an insight into their art & pick up some tips on Z Kawas & which breakers-yard USD forks to best use on a Monkee machine. Instead we got shown the secrets of how they make Danish pastries, how to down a pint of coffee without letting it touch the back of your throat, & which trainers to sport when riding out. GI even received a pair of 1981 vintage Adidas golf shoes as a going home present.
