Drummer with the Arctic Monkeys, collaborator with Iggy Pop, a man with fine taste in motorcycles, Matt Helders is all these things. We flew to Los Angeles to photograph the Brit's mean Mule-built Bonneville.

The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride has exploded. Well, not literally, but there are clearly a load of folk doing it this year. And it all happens this Sunday.

This weekend, there are 255 charity rides (raising money for prostate cancer research) in 57 countries. And Triumph are corporate sponsors of the whole thing.

Peaks Ride-Out Snaps

This was the only accident of the whole day. It was just topple during the coffee break when the sidestand pressed through the flapjack tarmac. The only damage was some earth deposit on the sidestand which didn't exactly warrant calling out the AA.

Proper coffee in the middle of nowhere, served from the back of Motore's Piaggio Ape - How fantastic!

And the next day on the way home, I stopped by Derbyshire Aggregates out in Youlgrave for a few sacks of black Bassalt chips (not peculiar to the North of England) for my wannabe-Japanese garden. (I nearly gave myself a double hernia when I acquired the stone doorstep from a field next to the A53 when I was last in the Peak District). BP

As each bike rolled in it seemed an even more 'inappropriate' a match for the others already lined up in the bus lane. And like with the routes people had taken to ride to Sheffield, the sources of the tip-off that there was a ride-out and a Sideburn party in the evening were pretty random too. From "Instagram" to "I work in the tattoo shop around the corner" and "I heard a raucous VROooM-Vroom". Good to see some Dirt Quake II survivors there too.

By the time John Lawson turned up on his Dirt Quake II, class-winning, Africa Twin, the law decided enough was enough and sent the riot squad in. We happily buggered off to the Peak District for four hours before returning. BP
