Sideburn 32 - OUT NOW

Sideburn 32 is the greatest issue of Sideburn ever created. A thudding wodge of motorcycle stimulation and illumination that crackles with fun and good ideas.

It's perhaps our most diverse issue ever. Obviously the 116 pages of thick, gloss paper is crammed with motorcycles, but they range from pro flat tracker, through backwoods backflip 450s and ice racing Yamaha XSR900s to heavyweight street trackers, plus a dose of long distance adventure touring on dinky 125s in a FREE 16-page supplement created in conjunction with Tom Bing. There's also art, architecture, poetry and racing advice. We couldn't pack another atom of goodness into it.

COVER: Yamaha XS650 Framer with Lucia Aucott

BIKES: Yamaha XS650 Framer; See See Harley-Davidson XL1200 Roadster Street Tracker; OMT Garage Yamaha XSR900 SnowQuake racer; BSA Hornet; Honda CRF450 hillclimber; Honda 650 sand racer

See See Motorcycles: Empire Building

The See See Motorcycles family has been busy over the last few months. The hard riding makers of the wonderfully inclusive, beautifully decorated moto-coffee shop in Portland, Oregon not only organise the annual One Motorcycle Show, the annual (and oft-copied) 21 Helmets show, they are a huge help in organising Dirt Quake USA and also promote a winter series of indoor flat track at Salem plus they sponsor a variety of racers and riders. So how the hell they have found time to open See See KTM, a dealer in all things orange, just 100 yards from their coffee and clothing/moto parts store is beyond me.

If that wasn't enough, they're about to open their second See See coffee shop, this one in Reno, Nevada. They're launching the Nevada branch with a 21 Helmets show. See the details above.

Good luck See See! GI

Red Clouds GoodBOOKs back in stock

Every now and then we buy a few items from other companies to sell in our shop, stuff we like but is nothing to do with us. GoodBOOKs are such an item.
We bought some in 2013 and they sold well. One of the buyers upgraded his phone and asked for a new one, so we ordered some more.

It's a tan leather wallet, iPhone case and paper notebook holder in one. They are made by hand by Red Clouds Collective in Portland, Oregon. We think we're the only stockist in Europe. We send all over the world.

iPhone 5 is £50
iPhone 6 is £55
Plus post. Phone not included.

Get yours at Sideburn webshop.

Icon Old Ghost GPz900R

This is one of the latest builds by Icon in Portland. It's a 1984 GPz900R, they've called the Old Ghost.

Icon say, 'Modified fairings and dry-break tank gave the Ninja the sophistication of a monocled endurance racer. A Wiseco big bore kit, K and N filters, ducted Earls oil-cooler, and Racefit pipe increased her mechanized punch. The oversized Roaring Toyz swingarm, equipped with Ohlins TTX race shock, kept things properly stanced in the rear. And while the English origin of both the Avon tyres and EBC rotors was well known, the suspicious domestic origin of the bespoke billet wheels could be neither confirmed nor denied.'

Sang Froid Go To Salem

This came in from Patrick, of the Sang-Froid Riding Club in Portland, a few weeks ago. Patrick makes the Broken Bone patch we sell...

Travis, Andrew and I loaded up the van in the snow on Sunday, headed south to Salem on Sunday morning. The 45-mile drive took a couple of hours in the snow. Figured we'd be sliding all day so why not on the way down, too?

We road race at OMRRA with Andy DiBrino (below), he's a young go-faster with a number of class championships already under his belt. Andy's recently started flattracking, and doing well. Andy decided to teach a flat track school so we signed up. Run-what-you-brung, there were eight of us on-track, a mix of supermotos, proper flat-trackers, minibikes, and knobbied motocrossers.

Rode all day at Salem's small track, working on line selection, starts, head position, and more. Andy did a great job and we are hoping to get back down there soon. Had a blast for just a few bucks, and enjoyed watching Brad Baker and Sammy Halbert, who were alternating on-track sessions with us.

Some photos from Thomas Tran, Keith DiBrino and us. Hope all is well on your end!
Patrick

Remember, if you want to try flat track without all the expense of buying a race bike, you can compete at Dirt Quake in the UK or USA this summer. G

Slammin' Sammy v The Bullet

Three great videos of the same race 450 Expert Race.
This is Salem, Oregon, a short drive from Portland and where are friends from See See Motorcycles have been racing all winter. This is, clearly, a small, local race. The spectators are other racers, their families and friends. The race entry is about $40, anyone can turn up and race BUT two of the most exciting and combative riders in the flat track, one of whom is the GNC champ, just happened to turn up and compete. Brad Baker and Sammy Halbert go at it after two false starts. It's like going to a Thursday night football five-a-side match and being in the same sports hall as Rooney and Sturridge, but no one outside the four walls knows about it.

The video above shows how hard Halbert (#7) is pushing Baker (#1) with Davis Fisher (#67) just behind (then in front). The helmet-mounted Sammy cam below gives a rider's eye view but distorts how close the two are. The bottom film gives another perspective.

Daytona is just around the corner. It's going to be wild.

Thanks to Courtney and Roger for sending these links in.

The One Motorcycle Show, 2014

The One Motorcycle Show in Portland only finished yesterday (a bit early due to Arctic conditions) and already this great little film's out.

The See See Motorcycles team behind the One Motorcycle Show are our partners in making Dirt Quake USA happen on May 31- Jun 1 at the famous and historic GNC track in Castle Rock, WA.

Now See See have that show out of the way, there will be lots more news about Dirt Quake USA to follow. G

21 Helmets

A simple idea done well. 21 helmets customised by 21 artists. This year's roster includes a bunch of Sideburn collaborators and friends including Stevie Gee, Maxwell Paternoster (Corpses from Hell), Conrad Leach, Denton Watts, Grant Ray and Deus Ex Machina (the whole of it?).
This year's 21 Helmets show debuts at next weekend's One Motorcycle Show in Portland. G
