One-off Wednesday

We sometimes find one straggler left in a box. We've hung onto them for a while but it seems pointless to keep them forever, so we've come up with One-off Wednesday to shift these odds and ends.

First up is an Eddie shirt in large. This was the fastest selling shirt we've ever made.

Motocourse

I went through a period of buying Motocourse books on eBay. I use them for reference and like looking up at the top shelf and seeing their spines. I had six of early ones out looking for some details the other day. I don't have the first ones, with Sheene on it, but I do have two, 80-81. I should sell it to buy some I'm missing. I love the Uncini cover, mostly forgotten now, Ghibli lid, running number 13. G

SignFlu

Naff; the dummy I made of this Sideburn T used a generic free-font brushscript for the signature on the front. Then by chance, this fellow Cooper passed by my wife's shop to offer his signwriting services, so I roped him in, and he did a great job. I'm chuffed how it turned out - and it instantly SOLD OUT. BPWild West bird boxes, hoardings, skateboards, hot rods, toilet seats, Mona Lisa on a pin-head; Cooper can paint it.

Could there be a more appropriate T-shirt for this garage?

Eddie Lawson

We've heard he hasn't been to Yoorope for at least 15 years, but he's in Stafford this weekend. What's more, while the UK's best selling motorcycle title had its interview cancelled, Sideburn's is supposed to be still going ahead. Yahoo.

Sideburn is having a stand at the Stafford Classic Mechanics Show, the best modern classics show in Europe, on the weekend of October 16-17. On the stand will be:

Lawson coming to the UK

Nope, Fast Eddie isn't racing in short track (but David Aldana is), he's coming over as guest of honour of the Classic Mechanics Show at Stafford. If that wasn't enough to entice you, Sideburn is having a stand in the main hall. We will have an exclusive T-shirt on sale for the weekend only and hopefully some other new merch too. We'll also have the world's best Triumph Streettracker and Project FT500 on the stand. The show is October 16-17. GI

An Age of Superheroes

This book is so good I have to hide it or I don't get anything done. Mat Oxley is my favourite writer (working in the subject motorcycles). He's been covering GPs, at the tracks, since the 1980s, as a rider he nearly won the Suzuka 8-hour, and did win a TT (250 production class), and he's even written for Sideburn.

For this book he interviewed Schwantz, Rainey, Lawson, Doohan and Gardner - the Superheroes who wrestled the most vicious road racing bikes in history. He also raided the archives of the best GP photographers of the era. The interviews form captions for the incredible photos. I pick it up, idly, then force myself to put it back down 35 minutes later having not done any work. It contains more than those five superheroes, though. There are amazing images of Randy Mamola, Kenny Roberts, De Radigues, Cadalora, plus the bikes, girls, team kit...
Put it on your Christmas list. And our mate Kar Lee did some illustrations for it too.
Amazon are selling it cheap. GI

Ascot

I am attaching a couple of cool photos/scans They speak for themselves, but a fast Arizona rider is shown, Art Fredenburgh. He ran out of Shell Thuet's camp, don't know exactly how much support he got but I know he had all the good stuff like Wayne Rainey and Eddie Lawson.
