Costa Mesa Speedway report
Exclusively for the Sideburn blog by Jason By Hand By Brain
"I pull all kinds of stunts; I watch a lot of the Blues Brothers." Pacman states as he throws his right arm over the bench seat of the 1961 chevy truck and turns his head 90 degrees to look out the back window while changing lanes on the 405 freeway.
At this point Pac and I are already squirelling out of our heads because we are going to the races and are total dorks bound by blood. We arrive at the raceway an hour late and swallow two bottles of beer before entering the gates. Sliding up to
the ticket booth I ask "how many races are left?" 'Four' the buxom beach blonde says with a wink and asks for a twenty. Thats ten dollars off the entrance fee. YAY!
With an admiring gratitude I winked back and we were off. First things first-Ice cold beer-Pacman is already at the wall of turn one fifty yards away. This was Pac's first event, he was stokked to say the least. Beers in hand we swaggered over to the
backslide of turn two, looking at the back of the starting line. Good spot. Well the next race to start was the Youth First Division Main Event. This race was the highlight of the night because this little racer (River McDougall) with big vision made an incredible come back. Race starts and they go two laps starting the second lap River, #5 plows the wall out of turn one and keeps it going but is now somewhere near 5th place. He straightens up and in the last two laps overtakes the lead to finish in first place. He got all the applause. 'Flyin' Mike Faria was in top form too taking the Spring Classic main event by a nose.
Camera was in a funny mood so I took a video for you guys, and there is one cool shot I like. This Saturday is the season opener. Let you know if I am going!
